In your lifetime, who has been your favorite Vol coach?

Mr Fulmer, I'm sorry, I stated your record against the elite in the Saban SeC as 7-29. When,in reality, it was 8-26. I apologize. Thanks for good facts 8282.

Yeah, here's a full breakdown for ya:

Spurrier (Florida) = 2-7
Meyer = 0-4
Saban = 1-4
Richt = 3-5
Miles = 1-2
Tuberville (Auburn) = 1-4

Total: 8-26

I love how y'alls record covienently exclude the 5 or so years when we were a top 5 college football program and won SEC titles and a NC. His record was the best in the nation then. Listen I don't think he should still be here but if you're less than 30 years old and Fulmer isn't the immediate response to this question than something is wrong.

Spurrier was his only real competition during that period.... Fulmer went 2-7 against him. The SEC changed after 1999.

Fulmer made a career out of beating the Brad Scotts of the world.

I'm not saying the game didn't pass him by but notion that we never beat any good teams or never won any big games is just plain silly.

I don't think anyone is saying that. I'm just pointing out that he was fairly consistently dominated and owned by the upper echelon... hence, 8-26.

The thing is in the 90s we were in that top tier and it seems like to make their point they're covenantly excluding that. Yeah we had our troubles with florida but we dominated Georgia, Bama, Auburn and pretty much everyone except florida in the 90s. He won 2 SEC tittles and a NC for god sake. But when we talk about his record in big games let's just exclude that period to make our argument sound better? No... That's ridiculous.

I don't know how to make this any clearer. Spurrier was his only real competition during the majority of his hay day. He went 2-7 against Spurrier.

If you want to praise Fulmer for beating Jim Donnan, Ray Goff, Mike Shula, Brad Scott, Hal Mumme, Mike DuBose, and the like, have at it. The name across the jersey is only as good as its personnel... both coaching and players. It really doesn't matter if it says Alabama across the front when Shula is your coach.

Majors...the excitement when he came back to take over the program after the depression that Battle put us in was amazing. He deserved a better exit then he got.

So all those top 10 Georgia teams we beat were garbage? All those Alabama teams, like the 99 SEC champions, were just horrible? Ohio State was just a joke when we beat them. Man FSU shouldn't have even fielded a team in 98.

Listen I'm not saying he's the greatest coach in the history of the sport. My point is that I'm 26 and the the answer to the op's question is a complete no brainer. Too young to care when major's was coach and imo opinion him and Fulmer should really be the only options.

And for those who say Kiffin. Who the hell did he beat?

And even though I'm glad he's not still the coach what I'm praising him for is loyalty, 2 SEC championships, and what could be the only NC any of us see for a long, long, time.

Again, never said that he didn't beat any good teams. He just consistently fell flat against the upper echelon.

Alabama had a good team in 1999, but the West was beyond weak at that point. Bama lost to La Tech that year.

What top 10 Georgia teamS are you referring to? They finished the 1997 season at #10. They were ranked #13 the week that we beat them. From 1993-1996, UGA had a combined record of 22-22-1.

I don't believe Georgia ever got above #13 in 1998. They finished at #16 in 1999. We lost to them in 2000.

The 1994 OSU team went 9-4. Not exactly contending for a national title.

It's a good thing we played them in 1995-96 then. They were 11-1 and would've been playing in the National Title had they not lost to Michigan. So chalk that one up as a quality win.

Hey wolfee, I was freakin 6-12 when he was good. Sorry I wasn't on VNation or @ watching post game pressers @ that age. As I've stated 3,569 times, the fulmer I knew went 8-26. Nuff said.
