UT football has only eleven losing seasons (not counting this year of course).

Before 2005, the Vols averaged a losing season every ELEVEN years.
Before 2005, they had only nine in 96 years.
Take out pre-WWI times and the losing seasons drop to six in 96 years before 2005. Three of those losing seasons came before WWI. That averages out to a losing season every SIXTEEN YEARS before 2005.

The Vols average a losing season every 9 years in the last 100 years. Take out pre-WWI seasons, and it is 12.5 years.

The Vols have never had a losing season 3 out of five years. If the Vols finish under .500, it would be the first time in school history.

Nice info but they haven't been through this kind of coaching turmoil in their ENTIRE HISTORY so give it a couple years and we will be back to that streak.

What, and fans didn't already know the program is at a historic low point?

Move along folks, nothing to see here.

I wasn't trying to lower morale. I was actually trying to show our good our program's tradition actually is.

Except for kids in middle school and younger, I don't think there's anybody who follows college football that doesn't know Tennessee's history as one of the games best programs.

I agree, but when you mention the greatest programs, UT isn't usually in the discussion. I think some of these stats show they have a lot to say about that.

That's because Tennessee isn't quite in that upper echelon of greatest programs in history. Close but not quite. Most people still recognize the vols as borderline historical top 10.

The history of Tennessee football is a proud and elite tradition. However, Tennessee's football team has had multiple national titles slip out of their grasp. For example, Tennessee could have had national titles in 2001, 1989, 1985, 1970, 1956, 1939, and a couple of times in the late 20's as well.

IMO I think the reason people or the media doesn't give Tennessee historical respect is because we are down right now. If we were on a championship roll the last 5 years they would be screaming how historical and great we are!!!! IMO we are a top 10 historical program!! We have the numbers to proove it
and we certainly are not a Johnny come lately like our friends to the south!!

Since The General came to town we are the winningest program in the country. The past few years are a bump in the road. ALL programs have them. It happens.

I hear that stat where we're the winningest college football team since like 1929 thrown around alot. Who's number 2? They've got to be very close after this decade.

Look like Oklahoma and Tennessee were tied after the 2009 season with 653 wins a piece since that timespan. Meaning that since '26, we are the 2nd winningest program in college football.

1t. Tennessee
1t. Oklahoma
3. Texas
4. USC
5. Alabama
6. Ohio State
7. Nebraska
8. Notre Dame
9. Michigan
10. Penn State

Because it shows how good our program tradition is. We sometimes forget it's up there with anybody.

Well I was more refering to the it could be the first time we have losing seasons 3 of 5 years. Such a bummer.
