I don't know where the 4.94 time came from, but I have a hard time buying that. Dobbs isn't a burner, but he looked to have at least some slight quickness and OK speed when he had open field runs last year. 4.94 is getting into Casey Clausen/statue territory for a QB.

Edit: I just realized those times are from recruiting sites and are probably 2 years
old. :crazy:

Ferguson got run down and strip-sacked by Devaun Swafford in the O&W game (at the 2:11 mark of the UT Sports highlight video). Dobbs had a 59-yard touchdown against that same 2nd-string defense.

Of course, Riley Ferguson is still faster because of what the internet said two years ago.

I like SMART Quarterbacks. If all things are nearly equal then I would give the most reps to the SMARTest QB and develop that QB's confidence, game speed, timing, etc, etc. No actual player is being suggested by this comment here but I'm sure you will assume a certain QB fits this profile better than the others. We should probably leave it to the coaches unless of course you wanna take a poll and ask the team if Volnation can pick.

Agree. Don't know what Dobbs runs but he's much faster than 4.94.

Why is that some fans want to pick sides in our QB situation? News flash people RF and JD are both QBs on our roster. It doesn't matter what we the fans think about their arm strength or speed. Because we are not on CBJ staff and have nowhere near the experience to evaluate talent.

Let's just all sit back and watch the QB battle unfold. Whomever CBJ picks for the starter we should support.

Guys - I am not saying that Ferguson is faster than Dobbs - merely that I am sick of hearing how Dobbs is faster than Fergy without ANY evidence of that. And no, 40 stats for a QB dont mean so much if you are focused on your arm but do if you keep telling me what fantastic legs Dobbs has.

And as for who is leading, I think it is a given that Worley has the start unless one of them pushes him off of it before fall. Mind you, I REALLY wish Dobbs or Ferg would do so but I dont see it happening - there is a biiiiig difference between a senior and a sophomore. Yes, Worley sucked last year but then, he had a crappy line and no one to throw to. He is improving because Ferg and Dobbs are pushing him and he is getting another year of good coaching. Hopefully that will be enough.

Man, your right. I believe this.....then I get caught up in the debate, caught up in the BS, add to the drama,etc.
I need to support whichever QB starts even if its not the one I think will be best,etc. They are all are Vols.

It's not about 40 times, but running ability is important, especially if we're running the read option. Why run the scheme with Worley, by the way, if he's not going to run the ball. The ultimate point about a QB with mobility is that you are putting more pressure on the defense--it's another option that we haven't had for 15 years.

Yes, I think any and all of these QBs will run a bit more this fall. They will know more when to do it, they will REALIZE that they need to, and as we have more depth now, they will be given the green light to do so.

Even if he didn't, 40 yd dash doesn't mean you're elusive, which Dobbs obviously is. Even Ainge agrees that Dobbs is the slipperiest QB on the roster. I'm leaning towards Worley, but think Dobbs has a bright future.

Doesn't matter, Riley Ferguson's so fast he ran for negative yardage at the O&W game just to make 2nd team Defense feel good. On one drive he ran 30 yards up field realized he was near the endzone but that defense needed a play so he ran back and allowed them to sack him because his sportsmanship told him the score was getting out of hand. Ferguson once challenged Rod Wilks to a footrace but Rod Wilks took one look at Ferguson's warmed up run and turned him down. First time and only time Rod Wilks ever turned down a challenge.

And yes, that is no less absurd than some of the arguments being put forth in this thread. This difference is I'm intentionally utilizing the absurd, sardonic and sarcastic devices to invoke absurdest humor.

Seems that people go by them quite a bit when it comes time to recruit. And its pretty laughable when people have as their only evidence that Dobbs is faster than Riley is because they think so. Now since they were recruited, I am sure both of them have gotten faster but yes, 40 times do mean something - but not EVERYTHING, and certainly not for a QB with an arm.

I am not saying that Riley is faster or slower I am just sick and tired of hearing how Dobbs is greased lighting compared to Riley when we have only seen Ferg take a few snaps - and most of what we are thinking regarding Dobbs is in comparison to Worley. I am rooting for them all and figuring the coaches will know which one to pick come game time.

You might be on to something but it probably has something to do with the fact that Dobbs and Fergy hadn't been on campus but for a month or so at that point in the year

Ferguson may be the fastest and have the best arm, but if he doesn't learn to read defenses or pick up coverages he won't take us any further than Bray did. Right now, Worley seems like the best option with regard to being able to read defenses and pick up coverages (as a Sr. should be) with Dobbs being 2nd best. Ferguson will have to put in a lot of work over the Summer and in Fall camp to catch up and pass either Worley or Dobbs.
