In the end, Hamilton may have saved us (football)

The dogs he killed would have procreated and over time equaled… millions.

Think of the damage I do when I step on a cockroach. But to be fair you cannot say millions on that. Sure some of the dogs would have procreated, but that would be like charging someone with a million counts of murder for lets say vehicular manslaughter. Don't get me wrong, Vick did terrible things, but to escalate what he did into the million dog march is stupid.

On this subject, I'll say this, if Mike Vick can return the the NFL and continue making millions after killing millions of innocent animals (that's worse than killing people you know), then surely Bruce Pearl can remain at Tennessee and lead us to the promise land.

The promised land? Are you talking basketball?

I'd rather win the SEC East in fball than the national title in basketball.

If we had hard copy proof that the compliance office warned Kiffin, how are we "throwing him under the bus" as opposed to just stating what happened?

If Kiffin was warned on October 10, and ignored the warning on October 12, why was no disciplinary action taken against him for insubordination and willfully violating NCAA bylaws over the next three months while he was still a UT employee?

Warning him is only half of UT's responsibility. Monitoring his response to that warning after that is equally important. That appears to have not happened since UT didn't self-report this violation before he was out the door.

This simply doesn't pass the smell test when you examine the timeline.

If the NCAA was consistent, we wouldn't be in that bad a shape. Considering the MASSIVE (yes, that's sarcasm) penalties they levied against Jim Calhoun and the UConn basketball program. Pearl has already taken a bigger hit than that in suspension alone, toss in the $1.5m in salary and UT-imposed non-contact with recruits, and he's been torched. Yet, we will get worse while the big, "squeaky clean" schools like UConn get away with whatever they like.

Seriously, Hamilton saved football. Dear Lord, no man has ever done more damage to the football program.

Chris Low said on his ESPN SEC Blog that David Blackburn was the hero in all of this. Fair or not, ultimately Hammy is responsible for the state of UT athletics.

ut basketball is in a world of hurt ,with post season bands and loss of scolerships.on the tail end of a season were we may be nit bound instead of ncaa tourney, and loosing most of our bigs with only guards coming in next season and cris jones was diamissed from oak hill acadamy and might not make it into school, with some talking about harris and hopson leaving for nba .if this happens vols will be wishing for nit.and football is getting better even if sanctions are given to vols .but with kiffen unless ncaa does some real damage like 5 year ban from collage football.only way to stop this blatent recruiting in collage sports is to show coaches that they will be responcible by banning them, and also make them pay their salary back.coaches arnt scared of ncaa violations most just take other jobs.like eddie sutton, rick patino and calipari

strange how haden can rein kiffin in but hamilton couldn't do so for both of his major coaches.

Kiffin is reining Kiffin in, not Pat Haden. Kiffin has one chance to salvage his career, and it's to win at USC without a hint of scandal. He makes the slightest slip-up, and Haden will fire his ass faster than Kiffin flew out of Knoxville the day he quit. Probably fire him and have the police escort him out of the building.

I think when you cut through all the BS, he's a pretty good coach. He doesn't need to run his mouth and he doesn't need to cheat. But if he messes up at USC, he's toast. His next job will be as a low-level NFL assistant or a bad college program, and he'll never see the likes of a UT or USC again.

I think he will always land decent jobs, by riding his Daddy's coat tail

Why do you think he hired Dooley? It wasn't for his coaching abilities! It was image hence damage controll!

NCAA: Kiffin not compliant at Tennessee - College Football Nation Blog - ESPN

Yes, he hired Kiffin. He screwed up, we all know that. At least he didn't allow Tennessee to go down with the ship. Assuming what is said in this piece rings true, Hamilton and the compliance office did in fact turn state evidence against Lane Kiffin, and may have even worked out a deal (given how the allegations read) that UT (football) is essentially not to be touched. Hiring someone like Dooley, who has run the program with white gloves since day one, certainly helps matters immensly.

That credit goes to UT's lawyer, not Hamilton.
