Top 10 Known, Most Unknown Prospects
During every recruiting cycle, prospects fall under the radar for whatever reason. The state of Tennessee is quickly shedding the label that it is a marginal state in terms of picking up talent. Schools from the SEC, Big 12, ACC, and Big 10 among others over the past few years have dipped into Tennessee to scoop up some of the talent the state produces. Still there are some prospects that are under the radar in terms of what they could bring to a big time university with their football talents. I take a look at the top 10.
1. Sammy Seamster- DB Ooltewah (6-3 185) Performed very well at the Middle Tennessee State University football camp, garnering an offer. That offer has led to a commitment from the Chattanooga area star. He is also a big time track athlete and may also run track for the Blue Raiders. Great bloodlines as his dad and mom were both college athletes.
2. Kareem Peterson DB Marshall County (6-0 175) Preseason All State (3A) selection. Recently committed to Western Kentucky University. Held offers from UT-Martin, Tennessee Tech, Memphis and Middle Tennessee State University. Had interest from SEC schools including, Auburn, Tennessee.
3. Hakeem Worthen- DT Knoxville South Doyle (6-4 300) Size alone commands attention. If his academics were better, Worthen would be one of the top prospects in the South.. Had inquiries in spring from Southern Cal. Schools from the SEC, ACC, Big East are all involved, but Worthen will probably land at Carson Newman if his classroom situation does not improve.
4. Nickolus Thomas- WR Memphis Frayser (6-0 179 - Standout on a very poor team that finished 0-10. He had 27 catches for 510 yards and 7 TD's on the season. He is hearing from Tennessee Tech, Memphis, Western Kentucky and Texas Tech.
5. Cole Lail- LB William Blount (6-0 220) Has registered over 100+ tackles the last two seasons for the 5A Governors. Has great size and instincts. Summer illness has kept him under the radar, but he is getting looks from Auburn, Memphis, Stanford and Vanderbilt. He is one of the best kept secrets in East Tennessee.
6. Chris Campbell- QB Collierville (6-3 185) One of the top QB's in the state. He committed to Southern Mississippi over the summer. He has nice size and a very good arm. Had offers from Marshall and Middle Tennessee State.
7. James King- RB Memphis Manassas (6-0 193) Rushed for over 1900 yards this past season. Plays Class a ball so that could be a concern. He makes big plays in the run 1st Manassas offense. He's getting looks from the SEC, Sunbelt and Conference USA.
8. Sean Conway- OL Nashville Father Ryan (6-3 285) A massive player who plays with a mean streak. Goes all out, committed to Western Kentucky over Middle Tennessee State a few weeks back. He will be a steal.
9. Courtland Styles- WR Knoxville Fulton (6-2 185) Transferred to Fulton from Knoxville Central in a highly controversial move. He had to sit out two games to open the season as a result. He makes big plays, although speed is an issue. Had over 500 yards receiving and 7 TD's on the season.
10. Alex Crutcher- ATH Nashville Hillsboro (6-0 195) Holds an offer from Texas Tech as a running back. Was injured early in the season with a nagging ankle problem, but has bounced back. Crutcher primarily played defense as a junior; plays with Eric Gordon, so that steals some of his thunder
