I'm listening to Bill King on Tony Basilio's usually wretched radio show. Never have I heard someone do a better job of articulating the current state of Tennessee Football. King's hypothesis, which I believe to be objectively accurate, is that Vol fans are now faced with a choice. On one hand, they can accept the fact that Tennessee is now simply an 8-9 win program and retain the current coaching staff. Conversely, if Vol fans want to actually contend for championships, a move must be made. I hadn't listened to King since he worked with Professional Radio Retard Bob Bell. Liberated from that goof, Mr. King appears to have developed into a sound, reasoned voice in the sports radio community.

And Vol fans must be willing to go through some adjustment. It's like knee replacement surgery - you will be required to have it at some point, so you might as well go ahead and do it, suffer through the pain, and then start enjoying all the things you can do with your new knee.

Basilio is a bit clueless on other sports but his show is right on IMO of the current state of UT football. The Sports Animal is a joke for the most part.

But Hat (in my best whiney voice) who would we get to replace CPF? According to people in the know there are no viable candidates.

King is 100% correct. This program is at a crossroad. I see no deviation from the current 8-4 or 9-3 path with the current coaching staff.

I couldn't imagine a better time for me to spend two seasons away from UT football.

It's hard to disagree with that assessment at this point. The only thing I would add is that it won't be "Vols fans" as a whole who make that choice, but rather influential boosters who can bring enough pressure on Hamilton to force a change. I don't know enough about that situation to be able to pretend to know who those people are or what they think, but that's the kind of pressure it will take to force Hamilton to push out the guy who got him his own job.

As long as they don't hand the job to an under-qualified alum I'll be all for it.

I don't know. Mikey gets a lot of credit for hiring BP, but I don't think he has enough "goodwill equity" to pull that one off.

You're probably right. I think Hamilton would do a proper search and find a more qualified coach. However, the tradition surrounding the head coaching position at UT makes me nervous.

Do you think the AD would bring those guys in though? I know he's is not irreplaceable, but do you think they would do it and just pull some guy that isn't qualified for the job but he's "got ties to the university". This is CPF's 3rd or 4th last chance to win something other than the SEC East.

The best non-alum, one more time, is Jon Gruden!!!!!!

give him a 40M for 10 years is not even too much (Think about the Losers in Tuscoloser give a NFL LOOSER 4M per year, we guys should feel lucky!!!!!!!!!)

He'd recruit 5 QBs a year here. :p

He hasn't done much in the NFL, besides win with Dungy's defense

Actually, I think the Dolphins got a lot better under Saban. They were a joke when he took over.

I personally think you need young blood and someone with a more open offensive mind. You need more speed, and the way you get it is to offer an offense to potential recruits that will show off their talent in that regard.

You want to compete for receivers coming out of Florida or California high schools, you need to have an offense that you can sell them will highlight them and make then first rounders.

I really don't think team speed is a problem at Tennessee. We may not utilize it properly, but UT is probably one of the 3 fastest teams in the SEC.

Surely Hamilton is smart enough to realize that a guy who is widely reviled in Oxford for his inability to recruit would be a terrible fit for the UT program. And I haven't exactly heard much about Chavis being a dynamic recruiter, either.

When and if Hamilton forces Fulmer out, I can't see him keeping Cutcliffe or Chavis around. He may do the PC thing and interview them, but if Fulmer is forced out, I think the new coach will clean house with the coaching staff. It wouldn't be a bad idea to keep Taylor around as an assistant though - recruits continuously mention him as a primary reason they picked UT.

I don't think the WR position or speed has really been the problem lately.
