I like Kiffin, I like the in your face attitude, I like the Its not my job to make other schools happy line, I like his recruiting. I expect a lot from him, this year and even more when more of his kids hit campus. Ive been waiting for this change for a long long time.

Kiffin is a good coach since he has been on the Raiders. If Lane Kiffin had his way in Oakland, Al Davis would be dead. Kiffin is going to dominate in Tennessee this year, next year, and 2011

5. Kiffin was evidently good enough to win 5 games in the NFL on a sorry team which by the way still sucks without him. They went 5-11 this season. So if he can win in the pros then our chances must be good at UT imo.

6. Kiffin went out and hired some of the best coaches in each position he could get. Not too shabby imo

7. Kiffin came in and got us probaly a better recruiting class then what Fulmer had before he left. I would rather have fewer players at higher caliber then more players who suck. Anyone see who was recruiting Bryce Petty, yeah nobody but us. No wonder he was screaming to come here lol

8. Kiffin has brought fire and enthusiasm back to the team and it's fans.

So for the one's who say Kiffin is running people off and everything else just look at the stats. Does Kiffin have a big mouth yeah and I wish he never sounded stupid talkiing about Meyer. But if he can back it up then talk all you want to. Never stopped Meyer and the rest of the goons in the SEC lol

For the one's who keep crying over Coleman who do you root for? Chattanooga or UT. Coleman's mouth alone was enough for me to see the bigger picture. Just look at his comments, he kept using the I comments. I could of done this, I could of done that. So it looks like Coleman was only out for himself. At least Creer left quietly. He probaly thought man I am a third stringer with Bryce Brown and Oku coming in so let me go else where. Personaly Coleman made a stupid mistake because it seems to me it was a fight between him and Crompton and with the way Crompton played last year he might of still got to play. Now Coleman misses 1 year to play football and if he goes to a big name school he will have to fight for it all over again. Plus if he wasn't good enough to take it away from Crompton what does he think will happen at another bigtime school with better qb's. If he goes to a weak conference, then he is forgotten.

Average fan predictions of the seasons
2009 7-8 wins
2010 8-9 wins
2011 9-10 wins
2012 and beyond 9-10 wins or more and always competing for some type of title like we use to.

My predictions
2009 8-9 wins, we should of went 7-5 last year alone so we have to get better imo
2010 8-9 wins unless Nick Stephens or Mike Rozier rip it up
2011 10 wins and upsetting some folks
2012 back in the saddle again fighting for supremacy in the SEC and the Nation.

In conclusion I trust Kiffin and will stand by him until we just suck and lose but hey I am being real. I am shooting for 8-9 wins in 09 and anything less then 7 is a letdown. Unless we lose a lot and still beat the Gators in the swamp lolol So until otherwise I stand by what Kiffin is doing right now.

There are several of us on here that realize that fact. Fulmer was no worse of a coach in his final season than he was at any point in the 90's. The fact is that he was never a good game-day coach. His problem was that the quality of the other coaches within the conference has been much, much higher over the last five to ten years than it was in the 90's, and he could no longer compete effectively.

Fulmer's ultimate failing, though, is one that many Vol fans wouldn't acknowledge until it was too late: no matter how poorly UT played in a game under Fulmer, he would not identify and correct disciplinary issues and problems in execution as long as the game resulted in a W. Complacency was his ultimate undoing.

In response to the original post, this program was in shambles when Kiffin arrived on campus. It is not something that can be rebuilt overnight. It is going to take time. However, Kiffin has begun the rebuilding of the program with a strong foundation, which bodes well for the future:

1. He has surrounded himself with an outstanding coaching staff that has a history of excelling in recruiting. The cupboard was left very bare by Fulmer (particulary in the trenches, which is crucial in the SEC), and strong recruiting is going to be necessary to turn the program around in a reasonable time frame.

2. He has laid down the law with respect to team discipline. Off the field disciplinary problems have all but vanished. Those that have cropped up have been resolved swiftly and harshly. UT's players now know to a man who is in charge of this program, and that is a crucial step in moving forward.

3. He has instituted a strong strength and conditioning program. Our strength and conditioning program had become a joke, and it showed on the field. Improvements in the strength and conditioning program will not only help us win the battles in the trenches that we have been losing for the past 5-10 years, but improvements in conditioning will also help cut down on mental mistakes.

4. He has instituted accountability both on and off the field. Kiffin has made the team responsible for attending and performing in class. He is also instilling accountability on the field by punishing the team for mental mistakes.

5. He is weeding out the weak and the coddled. Fulmer had loaded this team with players that were disciplinary problems, players that were mentally weak and players that felt they were entitled to play due to seniority. Kiffin is bringing a swift end to this mentality. He is stearing this ship. If you're not buying into the direction that he's taking the program, take the plank. We do not need players on this team that are not buying into the themes of discipline and hard work. This team has to unify and work toward the goals outlined by the coaching staff. Weeding out those that aren't buying into the new regime is a positive action because it allows us to cut the dead weight and replace them with more strong recruits. It will help us reshape the program in a more timely manner.

We are in a brutally tough conference with a number of outstanding head coaches leading the other teams. It will take some time for Kiffin to make us a consistent contender, but he IS laying down a strong foundation.

Was he? I'm not in Knoxville, so I don't know the whole story.

If Vinson is involved, in any way, he's gone. Anyone who has paid any attention to how Kiffin runs his program knows that.

If not, then call Phil back and ask him for another dart you can toss.

Saban lost to UL Monroe, USC lost to Stanford etc. Teams are going to 'sneak up' on you sometimes. Used to be, you could count on Phil to win one he shouldnt and lose one he shouldnt have. Then the surpise wins stopped and all we had left was the not so 'unexpected' losses.

Vinson was just present when the robbery took place, not a suspect or even involved really, just extremely unlucky

Do you have an update? You make it sound like it was just a coincidence that he was there (i.e., wrong place at the wrong time). From what I gleaned reading this thread; he was running around with folks who were up to no good.

Seems as if that has been the story on him for a while IIRC. Wasn't he tight with the basketball player (Duke Crews I think) who was caught holding some nuggets. I could be way off though.
