John Chavis!

Hey y'all, long time reader, first time poster. Listen, I know our defense is terrible this year and you want blood. But think about what you are saying here. Remember 2005, when we wasted a perfectly good D with a TERRIBLE O? Remember the NC and how the D won many games for us that year (and the offense pulled their weight too as I remember a cold downpour at Neyland against Arkansas down 21-0 in the first quarter/half before our offense and defense came alive)? My point being, we have let R. Sanders and CPF live past multiple bad seasons, but we cannot find it in our hearts to allow Chavis a pass for a bad season? I haven't liked Larry Slade since he showed up on campus and believe our DB's have been a weak link for quite a few seasons. Yes, I ultimately blame Chavis since he heads the D, but let's face it, he spends a lot more time with the DE's and LB's. Our defense has been horrendous this season, but I refuse to throw Chavis under the bus for it after one season of ineptitude and many of stellar D. Also, let's not forget the fact that many of our "thug" factor players come from the the offense year in and year out (which incidentally seemed to explode the year that Kelly Washington hit the stage). I want changes more than the next person, but I really believe you guys are witch-hunting Chavis when he should be far down the totem pole compared to the rest of the staff. Thanks.:salute:

Mediocre at best??? MEDIOCRE AT BEST??? What in the Lord do you think the offense has been for the past 7 years?!? Are you an offensive apologist? Do you remember how many games we could have won in 2005 had we been able to score a TD?!? Does ALABAMA 6-3 ring any bells ? I would love for any defense to hold a rival to 6 points because you can at least score 7...oh wait a minute...they couldn't. I stand by our defense for the past 5 years up till now. 1 out of 12 isn't bad in your law of averages. Work it out on your abacus!

Tennavol You are better off reading than commenting. Point is we needed to throw Chavis under the bus before the NC season. He does not have what it takes. CPF and staff is a vicious 360 degree cycle.

That works both ways. Even though the offense struggled in 2005, one could look back and see several games that the defense could have won had they been able to make a stop late in the game. Late comebacks by Florida and LSU, and I remember late drives by South Carolina and Vandy if my memory serves me correctly. You can look at our defensive stats and see that this has been a trend for the past few seasons.

Chavis's defenses have traditonally givin up third and long. Can't get off the field. Its time for him and rest to set sail.

Both the offence and defense are antiquated. Both have lost games. As has been pointed out over and over again, the game and other coaches have passed this gang up.

I dont think you can defend anyone on this coaching staff, at least not with a straight face.

the sad reality is that we have devolved into the Tennessee of the early to mid-eighties.

Well, I have been loyal long enough. If the coaching staff at UT can look in the mirror this morning and not admit it's time for a change, then it's time for me to give up football. I have had enough.

Its a sad day. Depressing in everyway. I can't even see myself getting up for another ut game this year. I will just watch and probably shake my head.

for someone with 20,000+ posts on a Tennessee msg board to say that really speaks volumes.

when a defense gives up like we have twice, against our most hated rivals, the DC deserves to be thrown under the bus. his job also includes motivating his squad to fight till death, no matter what the scoreboard says. Chavis can't even do that. it matters nothing to me, what he has accomplished in the past.

true

pass D has been chavis' achille's heel forever.

go back through the 13 years of chavis' reign and evaluate the biggest gags.

allowing 65 points against the Gators in 95. toss all Gator games into the mix for that matter.

unable to stop memphis state final scoring drive in 96.

could not stop nebraska. twice.

gave up over 400 yards to the Gators in the NC year.

made a second rate AR QB look like a first round draft pick two years in a row (98 and 99).

gagged against an LSU team in 01 that was playing without its starting QB and starting TB.

could not stop GA from driving for the winning score in 01.

embarassing peach bowl play of late.

too many more to list.

Actually to say he's better off reading than posting is just a typical smartass answer. If don't agree with the guy, say your point of view but don't chase people away from Volnation board and keep them from posting, that's not what this board is about and is crazy as Hell, to be frank.Posters are what make this board free for us in case you can't take the time to figure that out.

I have been a Chavis supporter for a long time, but he seems to be living off of past accomplishments at this point too. Chavis, same as Fulmer, doesn't appear to be adapting to the changing landscape of college football. Both seem to have their head in the sand. Its like the game of football is a lock that was changed, but Fulmer and co. keep jamming the old key in and are wondering why it doesn't work anymore.

The blame starts at the top. Fulmer, thanks for your contributions, but for the love of Tennessee football, please step down.

It all starts at the top partner....Its not just one person (Chavis, Cut, Fulmer)...its the entire staff....all of them....mainly Fulmer he is in charge of the whole ball of wax....apparently he isnt intense enough to right the ship otherwise he would have done so a few years back once he saw (or should have see) the decline starting...now we are where we are because of that.....Only thing to do is get a fresh start....Fulmer shouldnt be fired outright but at least present him with facts and hope he steps down....leave him at UT as a recruiter or something thats what he does best....he has given 30+ years of his life to UT and should be kept on the payroll for something

Why do you care? You posted yesterday that you wouldn't be wearing your UT hat, exchanging it for a Nashville Oilers one. Can you say "fairweather fan?"

and that's saying something.........
