There are lot of nasty words for Worley on this forum. And there have been a lot of bad plays from Worley this season.

But I want to throw my support behind him for 4 reasons.

1. The guys works his tail off to get better. You never hear a word about him slacking, not caring, blowing off watching film, etc... He gets benched for the Florida game, but comes off the bench to give it his all. Never complains. I realize his "all" may be less than what is required to be a successful QB in the SEC, but he's a Vol and what is asked of our Vols is that they "give their all for Tennessee". Let's give him our support.

2. He's the best we got right now. Peterman played WAY worse than Worley in the Florida game. Our true frosh Ferguson and Dobbs have apparently done nothing in practice to demonstrate that they could do better. We can be honest and truthful about Worley's bad passes and poor choices, but shouldn't we get behind our best option at QB and support him?

3. He's working with (basically) all first-year receivers. Croom was a redshirt last year. North and Smith were playing high school football 12 months ago (and North was essentially an RB). Young is injured (and was an RB under Dooley). Howard is a first year starter in the slot. Timing and rhythm with receivers makes a great QB. Worley alone isn't the problem.

4. He's in a new offensive system. I had hoped that we would be hitting our stride by now, but we aren't. Coaching problem? Talent problem? Both? I don't know. But combining point 3 with this point makes it doubly difficult.

I don't see how saying "he sucks" or "he's the worst Tennessee QB ever" or any of the other insults and verbal beat-downs thrown his way helps him - or the team.

Flame away at me. That's fine.
But putting your hopes in Riley Ferguson or Josh Dobbs as the next iteration of Johnny Manziel seems like a much greater leap of faith than believing Worley and his receivers can grow into a solid offensive weapon over the next 7 games.

No amount of "I support Worley" posts is going to make him any better at football. I doubt he even reads this forum.

Post of the year IMO.

Well said.

And to back up point 3, I have NEVER seen this many dropped passes in my life.

I'm sure he does work hard, and I'm sure he's a great guy. The problem is that he's just not a very good qb...not for this level of competition anyway.

i like the effort in trying to support our players, i really do...go vols and all that, and normally i would be right there with you OP, but i just can't do it for worley

there's been a few drops from our very green receiving assemble, but worley isn't helping much

don't blame the guy because he is obviously working to help out the team as best he can, but in the first five games he has not shown that he possess the abilities needed to be a starting SEC QB

his best attribute is/was? supposed to be accuracy but he has consistently provided uncatchables this year...combine that with less than stellar arm strength and you get a mediocre QB plain and simple

P.S. If you are a recruit reading this post completely disregard my total lack of fanhood...here's a picture of scarlett johansson:

Never know. I damn sure wouldn't want to get on here and see 1,000 dumb asses criticizing me if I was the starting QB. sad thing is 100% of his critics would look like a chump if compared to him in a field of play.

He was highly rated, but just hasn't panned out yet. That's not his fault. You know he is trying his hardest. That's all that can be asked.

Many recruiting analysts said that Worley was a system QB. Apparently, we are not running that system.

For what its worth, I had a class with him a couple years ago and sat behind him. He would actually browse this forum sometimes during clsss. So yes, he does.

He gets no support from me! When your not rushed and throwing to the running back crossing the middle 5 yards out and throw it 2 yards in front of him on the ground then you suck! Im an old man and can easily make those throws! Get him out of the lineup immediately!

I cant defend Worley. He consistantly throws innacurate passes and its not the WRs running wrong routes either. He underthrows 7 yard slants and near all of his completions the WR has to comeback to the ball. He may work hard but its not winning games that matter. Why we dont think about playing a freshman at some point is ridiculous (even in garbage time). He wont win us the big game so I guess some people are content with saying maybe next year after every game.

Classically ignorant post. Here's a question. Should everyone on the team you won't support just quit? Is that what we'd like to see? How would the team do then because like it or not these guys that aren't performing up to your lofty expectations are the best we have right now! No coach in the world can work miracles and that's what would have to happen for this team to compete each week with our lack of talent and depth. Throw in the fact that we have new schemes and it's compounded.
Every great coach has been upset by a team with lesser talent. Every great coach has squeaked out a win when they should have blown a team out. Get behind your team and understand that its gonna take time. No amount of whining and lack of support is gonna help that.

I am so sick of people on here repeating what the coaches keep saying. No im not at the practices everyday and hav never been to see a practice over there but I can use my common sense and see that Worley is not the answer. If he was really doing everything he can to get better then he would be better! Quit taking up for him and worrying about his feelings this isn't high school football anymore!!

He's the best we got to try and win 6. I'm afraid 6 is looking like a long shot without a consistent QB.

While true....missing wide open receivers is not the fault of the coaches. Sometimes it really is the players fault.
true, but they could do much, much more to help the kid. From a play calling stand point! Think about it.. we run the read option with him if he's scared to death let him go pure shotgun and out with the ball instead of that slow developing read option crap!

He has not progressed after 5 games. I pull for him but he makes it very hard to do so. He plays scared and just like a golfer confidence is 90% of the battle. He is as unsteady as a new born colt and it shows every game.

I don't blame Worley at all. If I could see how he was coached it would be diffrent . He is playing in a system that doesn't fit him at all. Just like coach Jones said "South Alabama had our defense off balance" would be nice to see us get anyone off balance

If we are going to draft a dear Worley letter can we suggest he not throw into triple coverage to our shortest reciever and that he step into all of his throws even if pressure is coming?

Ignorant eh? You need to read my post over! Butch should be saying missing throws to wide open recievers will not be tolerated at the University of Tenn! He cant hit someone 5 yards away!
