In defense of Jeremy Pruitt

Sal and Dooley needed defending, Pruitt doesn't just yet. We don't know what we have, everyone that thinks we have a golden goose, i need lottery numbers. What we have is a no nonsense coach that doesn't sugarcoat things, doesn't have catchy slogans and corny gimmicks. It's refreshing really. As far as knowing he'll have any level of success here is just a guess, no one knows for sure.

Tennessee had a real coach ten years ago and for some odd reason he was run out and there was a lot of people calling for his ouster. Well here we are ten years later.

Well, I'm not attempting to take a stance on this issue either way, but remembering the past is a lot like remembering an old girlfriend. We tend to recall the good times and forget all the bad stuff that caused the relationship to end.

In comparison to the last 10 years, CPF was exactly what he was, a hall of fame coach. But, even Phil later admitted that the game was passing him by (paraphrased). Folks calling for his ouster were tracking all the same indicators we track today and the trends during the last two years or so of his tenure were disturbing compared to expectations and history of performance.

Opinion: Where AD Hamilton and the boosters went very wrong was how Phil was let go. Some called it karma because of what went down with CJM. But within outside coaching circles, they saw it as an indictment on the excessively political environment that was UT Football and they wanted nothing of it. Hence, Kiffen and the other experiments . . . yep, now here we are.

When you guys get some sense about you and demand tangible results instead of this always give them three years to fail nonsense, you will finally get the winning coach the team needs.

The administration makes suckers out of you because you will never rise to the occasion and demand better or hold a new coach accountable for his mistakes. When you were all united against Schiano, I had hope, but it was all in vain when the administration hired Pruitt and the majority of you fell back to the old ways.

Instead of false idols, the majority of you worship false coaches! And as a result you are punished with a team that is falling apart. Turn now from the error of your ways before it is too late!

You need to update your handle to Lost Faith Vol. Clearly, you are already there.

This is why a lot of good coaches have stayed away from coaching here. It has nothing to do with what was at the time a talent thin state, which now is not the case, and more to do with the liberal politics on the hill. Those dummies did it to themselves and had the fans bail them out time and time again for stupidity.

I'm in agreement with the idea that Pruitt is a good coach but..............

It's the BOT. Something is rotten on the board and the decision makers the last offseason had the makings of a sad folk song. (sung to the tune of the "Wreck of the Edmund Fritzgerald").

In complete agreement. If by year 3 we dont really see any improvement than this year, then we may have to question Pruitt. I am definitely behind him. And you are absolutely right about depth. We dont have it but more importantly we dont have quality depth. That takes awhile to fix.

In some places we don't have quality starters.

Thanks for posting Your thoughts!

Like most coaches we will know what we have by the end of 3 years. That doesnt mean sec championships ect but you will know by progress, hows his first class players progressing? First year hc mistakes still happening? Upgrading staff as or if needed? Recruiting gaining momentum or going down? Strength and conditioning changing players? And other small indicators give you insight to where we are heading.

One thing we can say for sure...if we don’t like the opinion of one poster just scroll down and you’re guaranteed to find one 180 degrees the other direction. I’ve never seen more opinions from unqualified people (including me) in one place. I guess that’s where this quaint, homey, down south feeling comes from. It is precious! And the truth lies somewhere in the middle.

I'm a Bama fan, but am hoping that Pruitt does well in Knoxville. I've known him since he was an assistant coach at our local high school. I know UT fans are impatient, and rightly so. It's been a long time since there was reason to be optimistic about the program. I understand the frustration, because Bama endured a similar decade before Saban arrived. I'm not positive that Pruitt is the answer, but I think he is. I hope people recognize some of the factors that will impact Pruitt's success, or failure; short, and long term: (a) He is a first year head coach (Saban had been a college head coach for eleven years, and an NFL head coach for two years prior to coming to Tuscaloosa), and is going to make some first year mistakes. (b) Saban inherited an Alabama team that had six, or seven future NFL players on the roster (Mike Shula gets no credit for that BTW). I'm not sure the UT roster Pruitt inherited had more than one, or two, (c) Pruitt inherited a killer schedule.....who'd have known Kentucky would field a once-in-a-century team.

Anyway....here's hoping you win out.

So glad you decided to throw in your bammer opinion with the obvious **** everyone already knew.

Ok. Whatever. Troll. You bring no useful information by your post. You blast those who support the team by calling them suckers. Also if they support the coaches they worship them? I don't worship anyone except God and don't believe giving this staff a chance to build something that I enjoy as a past time makes me a sucker or guilty of coach worship. I am glad people who know a lot more than you are running things. I guess you got what you wanted by getting a response to your lost faith.

Exactly right, I said it would take 5 years to get us back to where we were when they fired CPF, boy was I wrong.

Some thing weird is happening here. OP referred to himself as a bama fan and not a big Bama fan.

And so Bama inherits him once Saban retires right OP?

:p

Seriously though, well wishes appreciated. Id like the UT v Bama game to have national relevance again.

By Year 3 we will know if he was the right hire. Year 2 could be another struggle or we blow out with 9 wins. All depends on recruiting and depth. QB play has to get better!!! I hope OL and DL depth is addressed in these next 2 classes...GBO!!! Beat the Cats!!!!

Does it in year 2 = He’s great
Does it in year 3 = He’s good
Does it in year 4 = He’s ok
And for year 5... we’ll at least he’ll get a big check.

Does he realistically get 5 years? Does PF have enough patience for that long? I can almost bet if we aren’t in the SEC title picture by year 4 or in the CFP picture he’s probably gone..

Can we put this to rest for the remainder of this season? Hopefully we’ll win one more to be bowl eligible but if not winning against a ranked Auburn on the road and #11 Kentucky by 17 should stop this silliness for this year.

I agree with you but, from what I have seen from some of the posters on here, you are asking a lot. Sometimes this place is insane.
