The ole ball coach turned in his resignation today to the Redskins. Look out for him to land at Nebraska or at LSU if Saban decides to take off.

Hard to believe that it was so unbearable that he couldn't stick around for $15 million in guaranteed money. The rumors are going to be crazy. . . all I've got to say is that Ron Zook might want to check the nameplate on his office door to make sure it's not held on by velcro.

The plot thickens????? Just saw this pasted into a Swamp Gas message board:

Spurrier Denies Team's Report He Has Resigned

By Mark Maske

The Washington Redskins announced the resignation of Coach Steve Spurrier today only to have Spurrier deny that he had resigned moments later.

"I have not resigned," Spurrier said by cellphone. "I've got a representative looking into some issues but I have not resigned. If they say that I have, that is not true. I'm not sure it is heading in that direction right now. We are seeing where it goes but I have not resigned."

A team source said that Spurrier's new agent, Jimmy Sexton, told the Redskins to issue the news release.

In a news release issued early this afternoon, the Redskins said Spurrier had telephoned owner Daniel Snyder and resigned "in the best interest of the Redskins franchise." In the release, Snyder said "I have accepted Steve's resignation with much regret but respect his decision."

The Redskins said in the release that they will begin their search for Spurrier's replacement immediately.

Team sources said Spurrier has informed his assistant coaches of the decision and that there had been no buyout of the remainder of his five-year, approximately $25 million contract. But Spurrier would be paid some money to cover his expenses, sources said.

Spurrier left the Washington area on Monday for his home in Florida.

If PF puts on another performance like he did in last year's peach bowl, the rumors will be all over the place. I don't see it happening right now though. Maybe down the road.

Steve Spurrier would never fit at UT. Too much past bitterness, bad blood, yada, yada, yada. Why ANY UT fan would WANT him as a coach is beyond me. He himself has said " I'm a Gator and will always be a Gator". With that kind of mindset, the ONLY college he could/would coach at would be UF. Zook's riding a popularity wave right now, thanks to phenom Chris Leak, so it appears to me that the ol' ball coach is probably easing into retirement. I personally don't care what he does, as long as he leaves UT alone. :naughty:

LIO,
Don't hate the guy because he whipped us time after time and rubbed our faces in it with his smart remarks. He was only doing his job. The only reasons he will not get any consideration here right now is because PF's approval rating is high and Hamilton doesn't want to risk losing any donor dollars during his Step Up campaign. If Spurrier's resignation were to come before the Alabama game this past October, you better believe he'd be getting some consideration here - maybe not from the inside, but definitely from the public. As for retirement, you may be right, but I don't think so. I don't think that his ego will allow him to end it on a 4-12 (or whatever they were) season. As far as bad blood....If it means bringing our program back to national prominence, I'm more than willing to forgive and forget.

I didn't realize that making fun of another team and their coaches and fans was in a coach's job description. Coach Fulmer hasn't been "doing his job" I guess. I think it's HILARIOUS that Spurrier's a failure in the NFL. Proves he's only a man and not a god after all. You have every right to respect, admire, and even love the guy all you want to, but I detest him and would NEVER pull for any team he coached. Not even my beloved Vols. I guess we can just agree to disagree on this one. Still friends?
