In all honesty. How goodwas Dobbs considering his circumstances?

Flipside question: Which Vol QBs did as much with as little talent (of contemporary SEC caliber) around them?

Truth is, we've not fielded many O-lines as challenged as the backsides Dobbs faced. Dooley's recruiting gap, too many injuries, little continuity... young men who were challenged every week.

#2 all time in my opinion.

Single season record for TDs

2nd in career TDs behind Manning.

I've watched the Vols for 35 years and his senior season was like no other. Sure he had his flaws but they all did. Stronger arm than Clausen, light years more mobile than Shuler. Dobbs on a Fulmer + Cut team= Heisman

40 TDs in his Senior year alone

True. Number two behind the goat.

If you look at Dobbs body of work the entire time he was here and the coaching staff...in retrospect, how good do you think he was? My personal opinion is that Dobbs is a top 3 QB when it comes to TN QBs.

This past year showed all of us that Dobbs and a bit of luck contributed more to TN's success than Jones.

Jones should send Dobbs a cut of his buyout, he's to thank for it.

I like Tee but i think he was just average as a QB. He was surrounded by NFL talent at nearly every position.
Dont get me wrong, love the guy and have the SI edition autographed and hanging in my house.

He won and performed well with the same talent Peyton had though.

That talent was also a year more experienced. Not saying Tee wasnt a good QB and obviously a vol legend based on the NC. I just dont think he is amoung the greats of UT history.

We will never know but I imagine Dobbs coached up his teammates when Butch was brow beating them. In addition to making it happen on the field I believe he was tremendous behind the scenes.

I don't think people remember how average Andy Kelly was. I'd take Dobbs all day, everyday over him. Kelly had a stable of backs to hand off to, and in 3 years never threw more TDs than interceptions, lol.

Kelly was ok. Only starting QB in memory that threw as many ints as TDs. He was like Casey and Tee in that he willed his team to win.

You got to look at that when you look at Tee. After 98, he had no WRs like Peerless. Peyton’s teams were loaded at the WR. We were basically a 1 WR team in 1999 and Cedrick was a pure possession guy playing in the #1 spot, and we had an undersized TE playing opposite in David Martin. Hardly Nash, Kent, Price, Copeland, and McCollough that Peyton had in 1996-97 (Kent was only there 1 of those years).

Martin was inconsistent with accuracy, but you also have to include plays made with his legs.

NFL success has no bearing on being a great qb for the Vols. Holloway had none, and most who saw him would put him in at #1 or #2, some even rate him higher than Peyton.

Once Rothlisberger retires we will see, but I think he could go down as one of the greatest qbs ever.

Agreed. After Rothlisberger we'll see how great Dobbs truly was.

I also believe he'll go down as one of greatest QBs ever.

His talent level is insane.
