Even with the likelihood that UT's O stats will improve over the last 5 games due to weaker competition (though based on the USCe game that's not a guarantee)... I thought a '13 to '17 comparison might shed some light on the "improvements" Jones has made:
Total Offense:
2013- 353 ypg
2017 YTD- 290 ypg
UT has to avg about 440 ypg for the last 5 games to match 2012.
Passing:
2013- 165 ypg
2017- 165 ypg
Rushing:
2013- 188 ypg
2017- 125 ypg
Scoring:
2013- 23,8 ppg
2017- 19.6 ppg.
UT has to avg 30 ppg to match 2013... that's 10 FG's per game.
So... five years to basically come full circle at best?
Again though you don't know, QD could have thrown INT's against USCjr and it could have been worse. We will never know the what if's I guess.
I think it's Jones. His offense has been horrible since day one. Dobbs made the offense look better than it was and he saved more games than we realized at the time. I don't recall Scott being this bad at Miami either.I wonder if it is actually Scott's fault or is Butch that controlling that he will not trust his staff and it is all him?
In case anyone was wondering. UT has only gone over 440 yards in one game this year... behind QD vs UF. They've scored over 30 points twice... in the first two games behind QD.
Not JG's fault but he simply isn't ready though Jones has thrown him out there any way.
but then dormady turned the ball over too, which is why he is not the starter. so we either have yardage and scores leading the sec in turnovers and still losing or progression, which is what im seeing from JG. Now he will get his crack at a few cupcakes like dormady did instead of Bama. the SC game we all know the staff handcuffed him for 39 minutes.
i would place blame in this order:
Jones
Wells
Oline
Scott
my solution to this lack of points starts in that 4. i have a qb that is not turning the ball over and making good throws along with getting yards with his feet. Bama game showed some progress, but the playcalling seems to hope for a quick score and is over-simple.
I just hate the play calls. A mediocre defensive coordinator can call every play UT is about to run. Is it going up the middle, off the tackle, or a screen.
At some point you have to take the tight leash of JG and let him throw it down field. What do we have to lose?
