Impose our Will? Run the Dang Ball!

Would love to see us line up with 2 Ol in the 90s jerseys as tight ends and 3rd one as H back and just mash for a while.

Most people agree with this. UGA isn’t going to let us line up and run it all the time. JG will have to pass to open up the run against a stingy UGA run defense.

This will have to be Chaney’s most complete game. I think he has been trying to see what we can do on both fronts the last two games. Be ready for him to mix it up.

Run the dang ball with a run heavy game plan has been something I have wanted this program to be able to do for along time against elite teams and I can’t believe I am saying this but I don’t think this week is the time to try it.

Hear me out as I have looked closely at what most here would agree was a great offensive outing against Mizzu and the formula for that success.

Here is why I think we must pass to set up any chance to run in Athens.

While we hit some solid runs on 1st down against mizzu we really weren’t able “to impose our will” and run it down their throats. We had 18 rush attempts on 1st down and were stuffed for less than 3 yards in over half of those. We did have 3 runs over 10yards which made the yards per rush a very respectable 5 yards a carry but none the less we weren’t consistently staying ahead of the chains.

Here is reason we must play balanced football on 1st down and not be afraid for 2nd and 10 if we have an incomplete pass. We ran the ball on 2nd and 10 six times for gains of 6,10,11,13 and 9 yards for right at a 10yard average. That down and distance was clearly a successful time to run the ball.

With all that said I think it’s clear we must set up the pass to be able to run the ball in Athens. Even with our great OL I don’t think we can run the ball with great success against that elite defense the dawgs has if we try to be a run heavy team Saturday.

We must run when they are expecting pass and pass when they are playing the run imo to get a rhythm going on O.

Of course they aren’t going to “let” us do anything. That’s why the title of the post was “impose our will” Line up with Georgia going everything they can to stop us, and run anyway. It’s a matchup of one of the best O lines in the country against one of the best defenses, strength on strength, go break the other guy.

We shouldn’t need the pass to set up the run, just the opposite, force Georgia to sell out more and more to the run until the passing game is purely one on one matchups. Then take your shots. Georgia has a very good secondary as well, and if we have JG throwing into a very fast zone there are going to be turnovers. The strategy for beating Georgia’s defense is pretty obvious, they just haven’t faced a team with the talent to do it yet. Maybe we’re that team, maybe we aren’t, we get to find out Saturday. If we win the game, it isn’t going to be on JG’s arm, it’ll be following big #68 and #73 through the trench. Tennessee with the ball is going to be an old school smash mouth football game, and the boys on both sides of the line are going to know they’ve been in a war. If our defense can keep the lid on things, this may go down as one of the all time classics. To me that’s the real key to this game....not can we score, but can we stop a Georgia offense that’s a step off of where they have been.

Agree. I’ve been screaming this at the TV the last 2 games. Also, when it’s 3rd and 3 or 4, don’t be afraid to run. That has become a passing down in football recently, but with this OLine and with Georgia expecting pass, we could pop a few chunk runs on that down and distance.

Also, use the play action to our advantage. If we’re gonna pass when they expect run, play action passes should be effective. Let’s see Hyatt take the top off of the defense with that speed he has.

We must establish the run and they know that, so first play will be a play action pass for a big gainer to take the wind out of their sails. Chaney knows they will be looking for the run early. I told you first...... Book it.

I see us passing a lot of short high percentage throws early to get JG some confidence but play action bomb on the first play especially if they're one on one on the outside and safeties cheating run Palmer or Hiatt either one can get past their corners deep.
