As great as it was to win Saturday night, a loss against a pathetic Mississippi State team on Wednesday would really diminish the importance of the victory. UT must show it is able to handle prosperity. A win at State would be a good start toward taking care of business against the bad to mediocre teams in the West.

Right on, the UF win was great but it's over. I just hope we can get the ball through the hoop on the road. We just don't shoot as well on the road. Unless it's Texas or the second half of SC. Let's get the Bulldogs!

I've always thought the ability to beat average teams on the road is essential to a good season.

yep, and one of the things i wondered abou after the TX game was how would this team handle the hype after a big win? i think so far, it's been OK, but you are correct...can we beat the teams we're supposed to beat....that is the key....

At this point, I don't see any reason why we can't win our next 4 games. Get through Miss St and the next 3 are home games. If our Vols can keep their heads in it and no fall victim to the "we're great so we should win" mentality, we'll have some good momentum for the Wildcats of Kentucky.

Given Alabama's injuries, I think UT is in a great position to sweep the rest of their games against the West. Arkansas is talented, but they don't have any sort of consistency. Sweeping the games against the West builds some cushion against the fact we still have to play Kentucky and Vanderbilt twice and go to Florida. All this talk about Kentucky's demise is amusing to me. I'm confident there won't be anything easy about playing the Wildcats.

This is all true, but you also can't discount the OTHER ramifications this FL win has already had, that can't be lost... the National exposure for one thing. Everywhere you look they are talking about this scrappy Vol team, and we didn't get NEAR this much press after the TX win. It'll help /w recruiting as well. The excitement caused by this is terribly important in so many ways.

There will absolutely NOTHING easy about playing the Wildcats. They have that special place in their hearts for Tennessee. I would love to see us get up on them like we did on Texas, but I'm afraid the chances of that happening are slim to none.

Having said that, we have a better shot against UK this year more so than others. We're overachieving while they're kind of doing the opposite. It will be an interesting game. What scares me about Kentucky is that any minute, they could go off. That will most likely happen against us.

I agree with you about the rest of the West.

Tank the next three and that goodwill disappears in great stead. Look back to early in the season, Houston upset Arizona and all the national outlets, SI, ESPN, CBS, etc., did their stories on the Cougars and Tom Penders having a history of turning teams around. Now, they've lost a bunch of games to mediocre teams and aren't on anyone's radar.

Thanks, now I'm worried. I'm going to have some kool-aid and think things over.

We now need to go 1 game at a time, be patient but intense....and take no team for granted. Miss St...have'nt they went to a tourney the last 4 years running?

This Florida win is meaningful only if UT continues to play their hearts out game by game and get to the NCAA tourney, which I think Bruce Pearl and this team know how to handle it and will keep their eyes focused on the goal. Otherwise, it would be much like UT's win over LSU in football this year... who cares?

Agree with everyone completely... that was my first thought soon after the Florida win, the Vols can't come out flat and lay an egg against Mississippi State now.

Can't see that happening after watching the clips from practice during the Florida game when Coach Pearl said he wasn't interested in anybody being tired but if they practiced so hard they had to vomit in the bucket, he might be interested in that. Coach won't let the team get complacent!!! :nono:

pearl was the conversation of an email today on PTI. the emailer said he was insane b/c of the way he talked at practice.

wilbon and kornheiser smashed on the emailer and said that pearl is a great coach.

Thanks for sharing that, I was late getting to ESPN, they had already done it. I can't believe some e-mailer called him insane...

After I saw that clip it gave me goosebumps, and made me wanna jump through the tv and kick some butt!! That was an awsome clip. That kind of passion rubs off bigtime.

I think the e-mailer was joking around, they asked in it how long until Pearl's head explodes.

Personally, wins and losses are more a matter of how they happen than if they happen.

If for some weird reason we lose the next 3 it will depend on how the losses occurred. If the effort and heart are still there, then it won't change my mind one bit about Pearl and these players.

Winning road games in the SEC has always been tough. Lot of luck involved. UK did a pretty amazing thing a couple of years ago when they made it through undefeated.

Speaking of UK, we've had a history of splits with them when they have the better team. This is the worst UK team I can remember in a long time. We should take one and could sweep them.

...and keep the butts in the seats for those homers. I don't think that will be a problem though :clapping:
I had the epiphany that I was raising my kids right when my 13 yr old asked for a CBP homegame for christmas. I travel alot and can never be sure what the next weeks work will bring so we went on up for the Lipscomb game. I had no idea that during a holiday break against Lips that we would have 16,000 join us. The trip turned into a lifetime experiance thanx to CBP 's show and autograph session in between. My son got to meet most of the players during the show(including Candice....what a class chick) and they ALL were so appreciative and cordial. My son had on a white hippie shirt with orange paisley and CBP wanted to swap his tie for it....all in all a life memory for a 13 yr old.
All this to say something this simple....this coach is VERY special...these kids are VERY special. I worry already how long we'll have him, so let's all make sure that every home game is 18 plus....they've earned it...I hope they all know how much we know it !!
