IMO, Chip Kelly is not coming here.

You give Bob Stoops a blank check imo. I'd go after Stoops first.

The beauty of this cycle is that you have two proven guys like that who are both not locked into jobs, so there is no reason that you aren't banging their door down in secret. And then if you miss out on them, you still have Patterson. That's a hell of a lot better than the last time we were searching. We can't afford to sit around too long.

Not here. It's not Cali and he follows his wife

Picking Recievers Coach between USC and UT was an easy call for him. His judgement also is a big asset as he stayed the hell away from Butch. Best move he ever made.

I seriously doubt he’d turn down UT’s head coaching gig, regardless of what his wife says.

Back to the west coast or to a NFL team. Turnover is so high someone is sure to give him another shot

Why does everyone assume he's a West Coast guy? He was at Oregon for 6 years, Conditioning coach at the University of Nevada for 2, the 49ers for one, but he still lives in New Hampshire and the entire rest of his 30 career has been in the East/Northeast. You all know he's got a Wikipedia page, right?

Hiring Kelly would be a mistake. He is on record saying he doesn't like recruiting, you can't survive the SEC without loving to recruit.

Please quit confusing facts with issues.....it doesn't serve many of these posters on here. :p

Butch loves to recruit and he ain’t surviving.

Agree. He's a west coast guy

Actually, he's not. He's a New Hampshire/New England guy who coached on the West Coast for a few years. The notion that he's Chris Petersen and won't cross the Great continental divide is silly.

His name and the program will recruit itself to an extent. Hire a couple great recruiters on each side of the ball, and we'd be golden.

Why isn't anyone concerned about the recruiting trouble he was in when he left Oregon?

If we don't pay top dollar we might as well move down a division

Chip Kelly absolutely wants Bama, he never got that chance at UO. Just depends on whether or not he wants to do it at A&M or UT.

Les Miles, Nick Saban, hell even Butch Jones weren't "Southern" recruiters when they arrived in the SEC. You know who was? Derek Dooley. You people and your "Southern" bull****. Being from the South doesn't make you better in the SEC! How much evidence do you need than Saban, Meyer, and Miles?

How is his style not a good fit in the SEC? Gus Malzahn won the SEC with a dumbed down version of the same offense.

Bingo.

Come on guys, let's be honest. Chip Kelly is never coming to Tennessee. That's bc Jon Gruden would never hire him to be our offensive coordinator, and Kelly is probably looking for a HC job..

I like the way you think.

Because according to what I've read, it was a fail at to monitor type thing that he wasn't even directly involved in. Not to mention that it seems like it was sort of a technicality; not paying players with cars, drugs, and prostitutes, or trying to cover up title IX scandals or anything. And if I understand correctly, his showcause expired halfway through his second year at the Eagles.

There could be more to it, but that's all it sounded like to me.

By that logic I guess Urban Meyer didn't belong in the SEC either? If you can coach you can coach. It doesn't matter what your background is. Chip Kelly can coach at the college level and is a proven winner.

Here's why...

We won't pay him top dollar

He would have to play Bama every year

He is not a "southern" recruiter. Look at his coaching resume, NEVER been in the south.

His style not a good fit for SEC

Duh????? Who in the world would want him anyway??

He was in Kill a delphia and ran off Murray & McCoy of which both are good running backs.
He did poorly at 49ers...
He coached in the PAC 12, which does not believe in defense. A fast offense with no defense would not work in the S.E.C.....

That's what they said about saban when alabama started looking. For enough money, saban said yes---all it takes is boatloads of money and huge mansion!!

I actually believe that he has had his sights set on this job for a couple years. I think he knows that Tennessee is on the brink of greatness and total domination and the only missing piece is him.

Well said"right on point

Why would we pay top $$ for a fired and unemployed coach?

Seriously? Fired in the NFL, FIRE in college. Dude simply wins and with recruiting classes that are good-great at best, not elite by any stretch. He would knock it out of the park here. All the folks saying "he's not coming to UT" well why the F would he not if you paid the man? Don't give me the west coast crap either, MFer was in Philadelphia. He will go where money and opportunity takes him. I say put him in Orange and watch us win.
