Imagine this offense with a great D

I know everyone wants to blame Sunseri but has anyone ever thought that he doesn't have much talent to work with...how many players on defense could start for ALA, LSU, Florida, Georgia, SC...what maybe 2-3 max, if that?
We simply don't have the talent we once had.....not giving Sunseri a break but who's idea was it to hire Sunseri and install this so called defense?

We have some talented players (AJ, Maggitt, Sentimore, McCiullers, Couch, ) problem is they are confused and do not get coached up.

Last year it was, "imagine what it would had been like with Bray and Hunter". Now it is, "imagine what it would be like with a defense".

There is a theme around the board that many fans are forgetting one major principle. It is not how you lose, but that you lose.

Does everyone understand that one of the major reasons our offense scores a lot of points is due to the sheer amount of possessions our offense has because our defense is so terrible?

Our raw offensive efficiency ranking is slightly in the top fifty in the nation. The offense is not great...hard to even say that it is good. We have an average SEC offense with a wretched high school defense.

Hate to give props to the Gators but if this offense were paired with that defense we would possibly be 9-0 right now. Their offense sucks almost as bad as our defense!

That dog doesn't hunt
A ) The kids playing for our defense were nationally recruited by the top teams in the country. The few that were not recruited at this level were recruited by top 25 teams nationally. I expect a few recruiting busts , but not a whole defense worth

B ) the same players were better last year . This year they have added more size and depth . They should have taken a step forward

C ) Their big areas of problems .: Leverage on the front , shedding blocks , tackeling , angles , understanding and reacting to their keys and fits. These are ALL coaching issues and are not talent based

This is not to mention schematic flaws. LBs covering slots ? why not safeties . Huge cushions. Lack of disguise.

Also , I understand the conversion to a 3-4 is tough ...but no progress all season ? I would expect to see progress

Coaching , coaching, coaching

EXACTLY ...with 70+ snaps a game we should score as much as we do .

Average? That average offense put up 44 against UGA, 31 against Miss St and 35 against USCjr. I'd say that is better than average given the competition.

We should score more. Our offense goes three and out over 30% of its possessions (48th in the nation). Only 41% of our drives that begin on our own side of the field end up reaching the opposing teams 30 (49th in the nation). And, out of the available yards we can gain on each drive (e.g., if we started on our own 20, we could gain 80 yards), we only gain 49% of those yards (43rd in the nation).

The individuals who think this is a good offense simply because of the raw points and yards accumulated are missing the fact that this offense is average.

You give me enough shots and I'll drain 1,000 3-pointers...

Yet, if this was an average offense it wouldn't matter.

I don't think it's a great offense, but it's not average either. The only defense that has shut it down completely is Bama and they've shut down everyone.

I understand this and enjoyed the numbers you put out there making this a fact . The offense benifits from the defenses failures which gives them more shots .

I would like to see numbers based on points per offensive snaps compared to to other SEC teams, Not sure where to get those numbers other than tally it all up myself...you got em ?

Florida pretty much shut it down. When you pass for less than 300 and rush for less than 100, you have been shut down.

And, Georgia...not an incredibly efficient defense.

This offense sputters a lot.

Imagine this team with a below average defense. As it stands they have to get a lot better just to be awful.

These type of threads crack me up and make me wonder how threads were 5-7 yrs ago.

I can't remember the year but I remember one year UT had one of the top 4 Ds under Chavis and like the 104th or so O in the country.

This place is a basket case...

Yes, it does and that has a lot to do with Chaney's play calling. Like yesterday when UT had a 1st down at the 4 and he calls a pass two times in a row and then runs it and we have to settle for a field goal instead of a td before the half.

This team has a lot of problems, but I think the offense is the least of them.

I'd settle for an average defense...and lord knows we aren't even that at this point. I've seen Arena Football teams that play better defense.

How about running the ball and using the clock ? Maybe keep the suspect defense off the field? The less snaps the D see , the less chance they have to give up a score.

Seems like football 101

Can you? We can put points on almost anyone. Lots of points. If only we had a defense. It would be a completely different situation and most likely a great season. Dools just can't seem to put the two together on the same field.

We would very likely be 8-1.

With talented receivers like Hunter and CP, I would love to see this team line up in the I with a big FB and a big TE. Hunter and CP do not need one or two more receivers running interference in order to get open; they can do it on their own. Playing some smash mouth football would not only provide a steady and consistent ground game, but it would open up some deep shots for Hunter and CP.
