it is a solid class, that filled some needs, nobody knows how good or bad they will be in the future,we shall see how well CBJ and company did in this class,of course that will take a couple of years,I personally don't put much stock in a Freshmen, but that is just my opinion

hopefully they can red shirt a bunch of em and then we shall see how good or bad they do,it all ways takes time :)

Big time recruits want to go to big time programs in the now. Butch had great recruiting success because we were on the up and up and could possibly make a move. This last season gave a whole lotta ammunition to other coaches to dissuade recruits from coming to Rocky Top. Jalen Hurd leaving was huge. Why on earth would the star running back that was virtually one of, if not the, face of the team decide to transfer mid season? How did Tennessee possibly lose to South Carolina and Vandy w/ all that talent? Recruits see that stuff. Red flags, alarms, whatever. Now that Butch has proven to make in game mistakes and no longer can fall back on recruiting, he better pray for a miracle season. And this is coming from a Butch Jones fan.

Yeah, if thought this year was tough and pressure filled then he's in for a bit of a surprise in 17.

I will reserve judgement until I see how the position coaches affect our progress. I am a little disappointed but considering the injuries we had this past season showed just how depleted the depth was/is. Hopefully with what we have coming back healthy(hopefully)we have a good season then crush recruiting next year and we will still be on track.

I don't get the QB coach hire or whatever he's called Canales. It just seems like we hire coaches like teams take recruits listed as athletes. We get a coach and put them in a position that really doesn't meet their overall history. Scott, Canales. Did Fair join the staff? It just seems like we don't have any real direction. We can't compete in the SEC, or even the SEC east ranked 14th. USC and Florida are both near ranking and UGA, well that dud drove his team into a ditch and pulled in the 3rd ranked class in America.

Three stars don't win. Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State, Florida State and Michigan don't have this type of class. I guess our administration and BOT see 10 wins as the ceiling for our program. Maybe I'm the one for thinking we're more than that.

Im so sick of hearing that this class gives us depth. You can't take a bunch of peewee kids and throw them on a high school varsity team and call it depth just because you have more players on your team. We now have AAC talent backing up the few true SEC players we have to face Bama, UF, and Uga. 2 of those 3 are in the top 5 nationally recruiting and added SEC level depth behind rosters with more true SEC talent than we have.

This will be considered a rebuild next year when we are looking for a new coach and will get stuck with the 5th option, again. Oh and all the coaches that had proven themselves for a couple years already took jobs this year so the top of the pool of coaches will be unproven over time and yet those will be the coaches turning us down.

So basically we will be darned if we do and darned if we don't with firing Butch. We fire him and get stuck with another Butch/Dooley level hire. We keep him and continue down his path of turning us into an AAC contender while playing an SEC schedule.

The people who are spinning this as a great recruiting class have lowered their standards.

Nope those people are probably to young to remember the last 12 Tennessee has 6 7 loss season and has only 1 10 win season and 1 SEC Championship appearance the years are starting to add up

Well historically we are the number 2 program in the SEC you just have to be an old coot like me to remember that. It's less about being 14th nationally than being what 7th or 8th in the SEC?

This^^^^^

I see no reason to think the UTAD will move to fire Butch Jones unless he doesn't make a bowl game next year. They're fine with second tier as long as the stands are full. 6 wins, he may get canned, 7 they may think about retaining him, 8 wins he gets a contract extension and a raise , maybe a statue. Fix the administration first. Then things may get better. With the recruiting budget they have should be top 10 every year. This is what you get when you shop in the bargain bin for coaches.

EXACTLY!!! Get off of the dang wallet and get a proven winning coach. Who do you think we might be able to get if we were offering $8 million?

So, buy a coach away from another team. One that thought he was happy there till we offered to double his salary.

You have to understand Tennessee athletics. We have cheaped out ever since Fulmer. We have brainless people running things. Expect another year of 7-8 regular season wins, more SEC west losses and another weak B10 bowl game. Tennessee is now firmly entrenched in mediocrity. It is what it is. We just have to accept it.

Dooley's 2012 class was arguably better on paper: had a better average and more 4 stars (using Rivals - have not looked at other sites). Also ranked 6th in SEC v. 7th for 2017.

Dooley's 2011 class was better on paper - better average, more 4 stars, and ranked 6th in SEC.

Dooley's 2010 class definitely better on paper - better average, had at least one 5 star, more 4 stars, ranked 5th in SEC.

Arguably Butch;s one clear advantage over Dooley was recruiting - that is gone now. Looks like the legacy class blinded many to Butch's true recruiting power.

Lol. What makes you really think UT would even think about hiring a proven winner?

Exactly. If they'd had any intention of hiring a proven winner, we'd be knee deep in Chammionships now with Jon Gruden, instead of Bichin bout Butch.

You keep repeating "on paper" like it means something
