"I'm the only guy that has any sense of reality in this whole organization."

Pressed further with a flood of questions about Bray, Dooley became a bit animated.

"You can't be in a cast for over a month and then come out of the cast and just say, 'I'm good.' " Dooley said. "I mean, we live in La-La Land. He lives in La-La Land. I'm the only guy that has any sense of reality in this whole organization."

I posted a thread about instilling confidence recently. Dooley continues to throw the players under the bus by stating they are starting because there is no one behind them that is better. Now, it appears as though he is throwing the whole organization under the bus! If he was serious about the above comment. How can the administration expect Dooley who continues to show a negative demeanor toward his players and coaches to lead the program back to greatness?

I've seen a lot of geniuses in here spouting how their negativity is realism and how without realism there is no growth. Seems to me DD in his quote is telling all you realists that he more than anyone gets how horrible it all is at times and how much realism needs to be injected into everyone's viewpoint.

You chaps can deride his coaching and wins but he subscribes to your brand of communication and analysis. Like many of you he doesn't publicly tear himself down either he continues to believe he's the man that can see the problems no one else will.

How in God's green Earth can you watch him say those words and even slightly not get that he was saying it in jest?

Everybody hated CPF's answers and how he used inarticulate coach speak that bored us to tears. Now we get a straightforward, thoughtful guy with a sense of humor . . . and he gets criticized for being too pointed with his comments and and funny at the wrong times.

Pretty simple to me GA

He's not Fulmer
He's not Kiffen
And he's not winning

That covers half to all of the entire thought process of most posters

Just watching Coach K talk about how rough his first few years were should give everyone on VN a reminder to wait and see how things play out.

From my view, it wasn't in jest, but he is right. A lot of times the players themselves think they can come right back and win every single game and that is just not how it usually works.

And then you get pressure from inside the organization and fans that think he can win a an SEC title in 2 years.

Both are unrealistic. He is an honest guy, you have to give him that.

I wish people would just be honest about the bolded part being the issue rather than dissecting his comments for no apparent reason.

No doubt. I like DD a lot would love to see him succeed believe even that he can if some basics like keeping players on the field work out. Sadly the wins and lack thereof have provided much chum for the detractors.

Maybe "sarcastic" is a better word than "jest", but you clearly understand his intent. He made a sarcastic comment to illustrate the absurdity of the thought process that they can take the cast off and, voila, Bray is Joe Montana.

It's just frustrating watching a smart guy get ripped because his style of humor is above Hee Haw level.

Since Dooley now lives in reality hopefully he can realise that he should replace Hiestand, and hire a runningbacks coach. :eek:k:

I'm really digging your Avatar. I worked for a Dos XX wholesaler in the past and got to meet that guy.

Just made it. Figured it was time for a change. I'll be test marketing it for the next week or so.

I like it, except for what appears to be a gi-normous spike running through your head and out the left ear. That's a bit disturbing.

Still partial to the earlier one, too.

I just want to beat Vandy and Ky- something we've been able to do even in the bad times. If we do, I will shut up and say that the comeback is on - more or less. If we cant beat them- what does that say about the state of our football program? I think most reasonable people would say: we are at the lowest point in 50 years for real. I pray that it wont happen for my sanity and Dooley's. I want him to succeed cause it will be a heap of trouble to replace him. I'm not a coach or a football guru and I cant quantify how much of this poor performance is caused by him ; however, DD himself said " You are paid to win games in the SEC " . That sums the whole thing up. Win or perish.

"Did you ask him how he feels?" Great job, Rucker. Can't imagine what I'm missing by not paying for your articles.

Very few reporters love themselves as much as Rucker. Guy is a clown and he can't post any rational thought without charging you for it. ($)

The nega's pick apart, expound, dis-articulate, and magnify anything that CDD said that may be construed as a negative. Wonder why they don't do the same thing to the hundreds of quotes that CDD has made that were positive?

I haven't heard Dooley say anything about a player that I thought went close to over the line. No idea what he says to them in private, but publicly he's never vicious. It's all gallows humor. Sometimes he'll answer a question by admitting that somebody screwed up, but that's it. Nothing any of the players should be hurt by unless they're extraordinarily thin-skinned.
I think this comes from Hyams trying to stir up some controversy by criticizing public criticism of players. I haven't heard anything over the line.

Listening to the sportsanimal this morning is very comical. The level of ignorance that alot of these callers call in with cracks me up. I hope they enjoy hearing their dumba**es on the radio. I love it when the guy calls in and gets so mad at CDD that hes screaming into the phone and acting like Dooley had slapped his momma or something.

Yeah and when he goes out there and pumps everyones a$$ full of skittles and cotton candy. You guys would be on him even worse. I can almost see it now..."With the exceptional talent we have we should be in every game, and winning most. If we hadn't hired a wac loser we would probably be sittin at 7-3 right now with all this talent".

Why must you go to the opposite end of the spectrum? Helps your argument, sure, but it isn’t reality.

How about walking that thin line a little better? Great coaches can.

You have obviously missed several statements by Dooley. I have heard him say how untalented, inexperienced, and young the team is. Yes, it is the truth. But, if said continually, pretty soon the players stop to believe in themselves. Then, the game is pretty much over before it starts. I have also heard Dooley say several players are starting because UT has no one better presently. Don't you think that effects the kids confidence?

(A) I have personally never heard him use the word "untalented" concerning our team. Link?

(B) I'm not sure what you want him to say? Doesn't everyone start because they are the best player on the team at the position? (Well, barring Fulmer, I guess...) What options do you have for Dooley?

"Well, even though he's not the best on the team, he's starting."

"Well, he's a senior, so he's starting."

Dooley has been very open and honest about the lack of depth and maturity on this team. I have never heard him question anyone's talent level. On a young, struggling team, I have heard him speak to the fact that we have been forced to start players before they have developed fully, grasped the schemes, etc...
