That UT isnt an attractive job anymore... And all the big name coaches turn us down... I see this here and hear it elsewhere and I am sick of it. Butch was the AD's 4th or 5th choice when we hired him... The guy should not have been in our top 20... And Schiano should not have been in our top 100... Our inability to get a good coach is due to our incompetent, lazy, and cheap athletic department, period... There are probably 10 or 20 great coaches and as many or more good coaches... You cant convince me that Currie called all of them and gave his best effort to get them to come to UT.

The UT AD will again seek a diamond in the rough and we'll pack Neyland and support this crap because we love Tennessee.

Bingo you win a prize. Schiano was the next round of gruel being served up to the fans.

The most frustrating thing is there are people who really believe that we could not do better than Schiano or a coach of his caliber. I seriously doubt any serious effort was put forth to make a home run hire.

Me too. We put 80-90k in the stands to watch a team that is t bowl eligible.

Nobody was openly calling for Butch's head till year 4. Dooley, the worst coach in modern SEC history got 3 years. Bit people make it out like we're George Steinbrener switching managers every year.

This is a good job. We've just had incompetent leadership for 15 years.

Step 1, get Charles Davis as AD.

Step 2, have Charles reach out to all major donors and tell them we'll gladly take their money but not their " help" running the program.

We'll continue to pay 3 or 4 failed coaches long after they were canned instead of shelling out big for a top guy. Dumb.

While I agree with the general sentiment, about 10 names people throw around as a potential coach are not people who would come to Tennessee.

So, the problem is people not willing to accept that realistic options are fewer than they would like.

But, yes, there were realistic options better than Schiano and better than Jones.

But, these Petersen/Patterson fantasies people have are part of the problem

If you think you're sick of it now. It just got worse by a factor of X10
Cheap has nothing to do with it. These high powered coaches you want are NOT even giving UT a chance to discuss money. They aren't even having the discussion.
The are NOT interested.
And if you think this made it better......wake up.

The "you just won a battle and lost the war" will fit here.

Definitely this. The money is there to hire a good coach. It wasn't when Butch was hired, but it's there now. This was a half-assed attempt to hire Currie's old buddy and Haslam's boy toy. I, like so many others, am absolutely shocked and furious right now. It's one thing to try and hire a coach that isn't a home run, but it's absolutely unacceptable to hire someone suspected of turning a blind eye to child rape. Heads need to roll.

GS is a good coach, and could have been successful here. I understand people being concerned about what his role was with all that mess at PSU, but people are flipping out like he was proven to be enabling what was going on. Regardless, to have happen what just took place certainly lowers whatever attractive level UT was before this mess. If I was a coach and I had options, I wouldnt want anything to do with this school

Explain why at this moment in time UTK is a top 15 job.

Our facilities are fantastic but so are at least 15 other school's.
Our stadium is storied and imposing but so are at least 15 other school's.
Our fanbase is passionate and love their team but so are at least 15 other fanbases.

Fertile recruiting ground? Way behind in that aspect
National perception as a place to live? Not all that great (Tn schools are pretty far down any list you can find)

So please make the argument that this is a great place to be.

I'm Orange through and through but there's no need to pretend like any current successful Power 5 coach is going to leave his job to come here. It ain't going to happen unless he is underpaid or simply wants the limelight of the SEC. Most understand that with that limelight comes uphill battles week in and week out and that UT while in the East has to play Bama every year. Georgia kicking ass and taking names this season isn't helping us either...

How'd you ever get a lady or a promotion with that mindset?

Your opinion is completely wrong and giving way too much credit to the people making the hires. Patterson would have come when we hired Butch but “that ship has sailed.”. Now not so much. Mullen would have come over your team had we locked him down into an agreement. Just utter mismanagement and misdirection. Squash bs rumors like Gruden and go sell a winner on UT being a winner. It’s that simple. Mathews himself listed 10 nfl/NCAA coordinators names with UT ties that would surpass Schiano and his mediocre record.

No, we did not dodge a bullet. Someone said that they heard from a someone else that GS once enabled that sick guy at PSU, and without any proof, college snowflakes threw a tantrum and now we may owe him a ton of money.

I don't care about that AT ALL unless said payout influences who we go for in place of Schiano.

That's the only way it matters

Why are those names unrealistic? Give me a good reason... A week or so ago I saw an article saying UCLA was the worst job in power 5 and they just got the best coach on the market. Money talks and UT can outbid anyone in the country but we wont do it.

South Carolina was a dick hair away from bagging Tom Herman...after hiring Steve Spurrier and Lou Holtz.

Job is a job. Money talks.

Tennessee hasn’t wanted to spend the money. That’s all.

Well, hell then.

Go get Urban Meyer or Dabo Swinney.
