I'm really curious...

I just love how everyone thinks football is so simple. Apparently, everyone that stretches the field in college football has two studs like Hunter and Rogers. That is absolutely not true. Most teams have one big play guy, and a bunch of guys that are good route runners. People also fail to realize how open the middle of the field will be if teams just double Da'Rick all game. Football is a little more complex than, "Hey, we are going to double this guy and press the WRs the entire game." Good luck with that gameplan vs. any average OC much less one that has been in the NFL and has been around great college offenses. Also, TN threw for essentially 400 yards with Hunter out vs. Florida once you factor in all the pass interference penalties by DBs who couldn't keep up with our WRs behind Hunter. And to think, that was without any sign of a running game.

Of course it's not that simple. Football isn't.

However, Tennessee will more than likely have to change its philosophy somewhat. I mean, geesh, Dooley/Chaney said they had to change the whole gameplan.

Teams will bring a safety to cover Rogers. Especially with no run game and no proven receivers on the other side.

to see if the offense changes without Justin Hunter. We were a deep ball team. Now, Da'Rick can get down the field, but he's better in the 10-15 yard range in terms of his route and ability. Tennessee might become more dink and dunk with such a plethora of slot receivers in Arnett, Z. Rogers, and Dallas. Should be something to look for in the Buffalo game, and more importantly, the Georgia game.

From What I have been reading, it looks as though Neal will play a bigger role as well since he seems to finally be 100%. Bubble screen to Neal, around the end, and rocket to the endzone... that is if the primary WR on that side holds his block long enough.

Agree it changes a lot of things. However, there are going to be several instances where Rogers will be single covered when a team tries to blitz. And if a safety is worried about Rogers all game, then Rivera and the slot guys are going to exploit the middle of the defense.

There for a minute, I thought I was reading a California message board. Bad thread title.

Oh, way to be a stereotypical redneck, douchebag. Have you ever even been to CA? I'd say not...probably couldn't afford it (my turn to be stereotypical...).

I think so too. It may have something to do with the fact that when I read his posts, I do it in a John Kerry voice. I can't stand that guy.

Agree on the John Kerry part - which is why I have him looking like a woman trying to catch a football as my avatar

You come off as a monster douchebag, fyi

I was called "dumb" for my original post (which was pretty benign) and was responding to that. If you're just going to respond "dumb" to someone's post, get ready for some of it back atcha....just saying

They're still going to try and stretch the field vertically. They might try the committee thing until someone emerges. I don't think they'll alter their gameplan all that much. They can't expect to dink and dunk all the way down the field every time. You either develop more balance or you really have to at least throw deep a few times a game. These defense will sqeeze you until you throw a costly pick. 14 play drives just don't happen all game. You run that many plays you'll have a few bad ones in there somewhere.

Get your knife and fork ready, because you will be eating crow

Guess what - I hope I have to!! I want us to hang 60 on em, I just don't think we will have improved enough without Hunter, and I don't think you fix our run problems in a big way with a bye week. Running the football is a philosophy and mindset from the coaches on down - if you can't run it in September, you won't be able to run it much better in November, it's just not that easy. Again, hope I'm feasting on crow come Saturday night.

Must not watch as much football as you think. That's exactly what georgia has done several times over the past few years. Same personnel, just knuckling up and cramming the ball down opponent's throats in the back half of the season.

Changing identities during the Florida team is a tall task for any opponent when there was a specific attack plan going in. Even with a senior led team that can be tough to overcome. Knowing hunter won't be there is a very different situation going into a game you have 2 whole weeks to play for.

You're kind of an idiot, btw.

So we can put up 23 points at UF without Hunter and a run game but we can't put up 40 against buffalo at home after a bye week? It's not like our offense will have to drive the length of the field every time we get the ball. I'm pretty sure our defense will put our offense in good situations. I still say we hang 40 plus on them. Go Vols!

Everyone thinks that we will not be able to go downfield and that Rogers will be double teamed non-stop. Chaney knows that. We will still go down the field. We forget Rogers can go deep, and Rivera is a beast on the go routes. Not to mention Arnett/Dallas/Z at the slot. We will still have a solid passing attack, just not as lethal.

Our passing game will still be good. Not many other teams have a duo like Hunter/Rogers and still have great passing games. Hunter being out changes the game, but doesn't kill it our ruin it. We have some able body guys and someone will likely step up and take advantage of an oportunity to play.
