I was thinking that 8-4 would be a good year for us. 7-5 would be OK but disappointing and 9-3 was a pipe dream. After watching our game I actually think 9-3 is a lot more doable than I thought last week.

Consider what our future opponents did this week:

WCU: Not worried about it
FLA: Eked one out against ECU
ARK: Lost to Toledo
UGA: Didn't look great passing against Vandy but still probably a L for us this year
ALA: I hate it but this is an L too
UK: We're winning this one
SC: I thought they might rally but the Ol' Ball Coach may be retired by the time we play them. (Lost to UK at home today)
UNT: Another W
Mizzou: Beat Ark St by 7... They don't really play anyone for a few more weeks.
Vandy: It's Vandy.

The end of our game sucked but it could have been a lot worse. We could have lost to Toledo :birgits_giggle:

I was until tonight. I'm beginning to lose faith in the playbook Butch brought with him. I know to Butch it seems extensive, but every play looks almost exactly the same. We don't run a lot of different sets. I thought last year it was because of youth, but I'm beginning to think this is it. It's going to be hard to win consistently when you expect your team to line up week after week and physically dominate your opponent. This is the SEC, and that ain't going to happen.

................................Just no. There's no way in blue hell we're beating Florida. Maybe Arkansas but big deal. UGA, no. Bama, no. UK, no. SC yeah, but so what? Mizzou, probably not, and Vandy yes. So yayyyyyy 6-6. Freaking awesome.

Not bad prospective. People just knee-jerk with emotional losses. This one ripped my heart out. A win at Florida would make this go away though.

I think we will still get 8 wins this year but the reality is we should have won tonight and the games that we give up that we should have won is the difference between 8 win seasons and 10 win seasons.

I'm not trying to sound like I have no class but don't ever let up steam on a D1 team that is ranked. We should have kept going with what worked until we were up by 4 scores. Too conservative.

We as fans should never expect to win a game that matters until it actually happens. We've been disappointed way too many times.

I agree with you on the thread title. Hope we go 9-3 but I don't see us going lower than 8-4

It was a tough loss. BUT we were in the gsme the whole night. We couldn't say that about a few last year

We should expect to compete in every game this year based on what I've seen thus far in the two games.

We went down a loooong way. We may not be back yet don't know. But at least we are playing with SEC level talent again and are competing in games with ranked opponents

I'm not calling this a moral victory. It is a freaking crushing loss. There is nothing to feel good about losing this game. But I don't see us getting run off the field anymore either.

Gonna be interesting to hear from the staff this week. I think they should own this one.

You should learn more about the game of football. There's actually quite a bit of variance in the plays called. I bet you're the type that thinks a UFC fighter sucks because he doesn't win all fights by a one-punch knock out.

For the love of God, the word you're trying to use is perspective. Read an English book, will you?

And, all this over emotional reaction is crap. People saying we're doomed to the point of losing to kensucky and going 6-6 or some crap. Christ almighty.

This loss sucks. I completely blame the OC and Butch. They got outcoached. BUT, we'll still get 8-9 wins. And, don't assume just because arkansas lost to Toledo that they'll be an easy win. They'll come back fighting just like we will from this loss.

I just can't get over how bad the play calling was the 2nd half. DeBord should have his ass handed to him on a platter.

Don't get down Vol fans. You have a good team and the SEC looks like it is up for the taking after this weekend. I have been a die hard OU fan for 35+ years. This OU team has a ton of talent, the one weakness is the O-Line. I have seen post on here thinking your season is over because you lost to a team who will lose 6 games, that isn't going to happen. The only game OU will possibly lose this year is Baylor on the road unless the injury bug hits. OU hasn't had this much depth at D in a long long time, and this many playmakers on the field since Bobby Stoops early days. You all should have won that game, squandered so many opportunities. Once the officials had the quick whistle in the 3rd on the Dobson fumble I figured it was over. Great Game by two great teams and fan bases. Hope you win the rest of your games Vols. As you know the rest of us are tired of the SEC talk by media, AKA Striker and Stoops.

We as fans should never expect to win a game that matters until it actually happens. We've been disappointed way too many times.

At this point is a Charlie Brown and Lucy kicking the football situation. 23 out of 24 games against ranked opponents have ended in losses. Loss after loss to completely pathetic Florida teams which will probably continue this year. Watching games like this one is like having a bad nightmare over and over again. I'm out until there is real proof they can win a few games of significance.

Addendum:

I'm not some nut calling for "Fahr Butch!" However, he did get outcoached tonight. I hope, when reviewing the tape, they can see where the OU coaches outsmarted them and make the proper adjustments. Head coaches can continue to learn the game as well. Especially in elite conferences like the SEC.

reality check: this oklahoma team is not one of the o.u. teams of legend. at best, it is mediocre. i've lived in ft. smith, on the oklahoma line for the past forty years and know whereof i speak. sooner delusion puts vol delusion to shame. its roster isn't lined with texas blue chippers the way all its great teams were. you can thank a&m's entry into the sec for that. also the rise of baylor and tcu. as i watched the game, i thought the vols had a distinct edge in talent generally. the vols are a young, green team and i suspect if the two teams played next year, even at owen field, the vols would own them. the real difference tonight was the o.u. quarterback, possibly the hardest to tackle to step on neyland field since condredge. it was a helluva game.

Trying to put all emotion aside, not sure what you would feel optimistic about. We scored with less than 3 minutes gone in the second quarter to go up 17-0. Never scored again in regulation. OU shut us out, at home, for almost the last three quarters.

Our offensive scheme is not the most innovative.
