I decided to be nice this year and i got my wife Dave Matthews Band tickets for this past week. i really did it up. the concert is always at an out door ampatheater, and we usually get lawn seats when we go there. not this time, i got seats in the dry, and actual seats.......plus a parking pass....dinner....the works.
Now, i've been going to DMB concerts since 1994. My wife since 1996. i tell you that just so you know that i know what goes on, and have participated on many occaisions....so it's not my first day....which also makes this kind of sad.....
And Tuesday night as i walked in to the venue i coudln't help but think to myself......."God, i hope i wasn't this freakin' annoying when i was that age."
the girls, while hot, were all drama queens. how i had the patience for that back then, i guess i'll chock up to youthful indifference due to hotness.
the rest of the concert was filled with what you think you would find at a DMB concert with a bunch of 21-25 year olds...drinking, drunkenness, some annoying yelling, but nothing out of the oridnary, but again, at this point, it was still annoying to someone that has a babysitter making 10 bucks an hour at home, a job to go to in the morning, and a wife. i guess my priorities have changed?
lastly........when they left the stage prior to the obligatory encore, something else had changed. used to be people just held up lighters.
i found it completely ridiculous to see half the crowd holding up their cell phones with the screens displayed.
a sidenote about cell phones.....when did it become acceptable to talk, text and email during a concert? I'm now convinced the downfall of Western Civilizaton will be due to the cell phone.
it's just not the same as a crowd full of open flames.
youth is truly wasted on the young......either i'm getting more mature or i'm going to make one hell of an old man.
time will tell.
