The season just ended two days ago. I still think this can be salvaged.

It's pretty obvious that Currie is going to look pretty weak when talking to any coach. The first step should be replacing him. I don't know why we passed on Blackburn last time. Let's rectify that mistake and make him the athletic director. Then, let's take a step back, let a little bit of the heat die down, and see who may actually still want to coach here. I don't believe no coach would consider taking this job. It's still a great job with a significant amount of history and an improving talent base (and if we're being honest, recruiting has hardly been our problem). Let's not panic because some negative coverage and hire the first person who says yes. If we do that, we'll get coaches who know they'll never have a chance at a job like this again. See the previous two hires for reference.

I really hope Tennessee doesn't rush and do something insane, like hire a completely unproven Tee Martin simply because nostalgia will distract angry fans. Let's take a deep breath and try to fix this once and for all. I genuinely think we still have a chance. I'd rather take a few days and consider all of our options before we immediately sign up for 3-5 years of misery.

I have believed the right coach, an old fashion-ass kicking-in your face FOOTBALL coach is the medicine we need in order to keep the ship from sinking any further. I still feel that way, but I don't think even the Great Nick could turn us around in one year-we are in the ICU! All the "great recruits" we are suppose to have, haven't been so great on the field-during game days-fact. Even a mediocre coach should be able to get us at least one SEC win next year, but damn-it we're Tennessee, we need a Super Coach-the complete opposite of baby butch. If we get that guy, next year will be "okay", the following year we should/could be a house on fire in the SEC. No longer "even if you suck" contracts!!!! Pay big for winning, hell I'd be for an incentive of 2 million dollar bonus for winning the SEC and another 1 million for playing in the National playoffs, 3million more for winning the Naty! That would be a Six million dollar bonus 2+1+3. If your a really great coach, that should get your attention. These wouldn't be the only bonuses I'd offer, but they'd be the big ones. Performance pay-perform big=paid big. Let's get it on.

If Penn State can recover and get back to the top after what happened there we can too. And our issues aren't even in the same universe of the ones they had to overcome.

You're right; however, currie tried to make it the same universe, the most disgusting universe anyone can think of. We need a real FOOTBALL coach, and a clean program, squeeeeeky clean!:hi:

Can anybody weigh in as to why mike norville is not in the mix or at the top of the list?

He should be.

I liked the way his team looked more than any of the other hot coaches.

And he (and riley) will probably beat frost in their championship this weekend.

But nobody talks about him.

Has he already turned us down or what is the deal?

Oklahoma started rebuilding after hiring a coordinator named Bob Stoops. Georgia rebuilt by hiring a coordinator named Mark Richt. Ohio State rebuilt by hiring a 1aa coach named Jim Tressel. When Tennessee wanted to take the next step, they turned the program over to a coordinator named Phil Fulmer. When Mark Richt’s time had passed, they hired a coordinator named Kirby Smart. When Miss State decides it was tired of being a doormat, they hired a coordinator named Dan Mullen. When Stanford wanted to keep what Harbaugh built going, they hired a coordinator named David Shaw. When Bob Stoops retired, Oklahoma hires a coordinator named Lincoln Riley. When Mike Belloti retired, Oregon hires a coordinator named Chip Kelly.

Yet Tennessee is miraculously in a position to hire who?

It may be time to take a risk with a lot of potential. It worked for all those schools above, and yet it won’t work for us? Give me a break.

According to at least one media person, Norvell turned us down.
