the defense was insane!!! one freakin td. amazing. Erik lost it. i hate to say that but it is true. if moore catches the 4th down ball maybe it is a different game. if we run block at all maybe it is a different game. If the refs call the PI on the deep ball to rogers maybe it is a different game. oh well. spilled milk

true, but it was an errant throw....and EA had several of those.

there's no sugar coating EA's performance tonight...he wasn't very good, plain and simple. and i truly do hate it for him. his legacy is crap now. he's the guy that lost the SEC title for us.

im going to tick some people off here but look, that int berry had, leonard scott could have caught that ball. Berry was the guy who was out of place on that 3rd down touchdown. Hes gonna be ok, but the blame can be spread around a little.

honestly, i don't blame Fulmer. as the game played on it played in to his hands. we simplay showed the lack of playmakers on offense to seal the deal.

we're left with the questions.......what if we dont' throw the two INT's......what if we dont' miss the two fg's....we got coached in to position to actually win the game. we did not make the plays.
I had a hard time telling whether Phil was trying to sit on a 1-point lead in the first half or LSU was playing lights-out defense after UTK's first drive of the half. You already mentioned the running on first, and often second, down so I won't get into that. It seemed like they had a good think going most everytime they used the G-Gun and I am not sure why they did not call it a few moer times. For the most part I thought that tonight was an excellent demostration of the Fulmer stratgey of playing so as not to let the other team dictate the tempo of the game and in the end it almost worked, or at least almost got the Vols to overtime. Truth is though, that i thought LSU should've scored 24 points in the first half and I did not think UTK's defense could keep it up for two halfs. Hat's off to the defense :hi:.

yes he was. and as pissed off as i was about it.......he still made a difference on defense. hard to fault a true freshman who makes as many plays as he does. especially when you have sr and jrs around him equally blowing plays. as you said, he wasn't the only one to give up a big 3rd down.

Agreed but that one cost us 7 points.

Berry and Mayo represent the type of TN football that I saw in the late 60's....I really look forward to seeing them both next year! Great job guys!

you'll be lucky to have Mayo next year. he could go pro next season if he wanted to and get drafted in 2nd round. i don't look for him to be back.

i'll say this...........the style of football we've played for the past month and a half, has been th equivalent of walking on a clfif's edge.

i too wondered..........are we really salting away this 1 pt lead? surely not?

but either way, the way the plays were called on 1st down, it begs the question. and when you walk a fine line like we do in close games, you simply cannot afford mistakes. and in the 4th qtr..........we made them, LSU didn't. that's the difference in the game.

as much praise as i gave arian foster last week, i thought his running in the 2nd half was tenative at best, and he didn't turn up field. EA looked lost at times and fired some balls that had no business being fired off.

bottom line, our "playmakers" didn't make plays. we were in a close game for all the marbles with a more talented team. maybe that's part of it...maybe we set ourselves up for that with our style of play.........i dont' know.

all i know is that we had 2 huge mistakes at the worst possible times. and that's how we LOST this game. yes, we LOST it more than LSU won it. we handed it to them on a silver platter. and that pisses me off more than anything. if LSU had just lined up and made plays all night long, that'd be one thing....but they didnt'. we lost the game. they didn't win it.

You also cannot discount the fact that the Vols had zero penalties, at least the last time I saw the stat it was zero. I guess they really had to play a perfect game to beat LSU and they nearly did it. Now we should all appreciate how the Vandy fans felt when they were called for roughing the passer. One stinking mistake.

Do you find it ironic the announcer was talking about we hadn't had a turnover all night. Then what happens we throw a pick. Devine intervention or what?

It just wasn't meant to be. Seems to be a reocurring theme nowadays. Pitt is beating west virginia by the way. I guess to top off this nightmare we'll get to watch georgia play for the national title.

then i'll start practicing saying the following:
"we beat the national champs by 3 touch downs this year".

and fell pretty damn good about it.

The play right before Ainge's pick for the LSU touchdown, I let the thought creep into my head that this game was ours. Momentum was ours at that point because LSU was hurt and getting hurt worse on every series. I thought that if we could just eat some clock and move the ball we would ride out of ATL with the W. I was thinking how sweet the Sugar Bowl and BCS would be. That is what makes what happened next so hard to take.

This DEFENSE made me proud to be a Vol, Arian Foster's run in the 4th made me proud to be a Vol, Eric Berry, Jerod Mayo, Josh Briscoe and the overall effort made me proud to be a Vol. A few play short, that's all.

(sigh)

I guess the bright side is that we won't have to watch Colt Brennan throw for 500 yards against our secondary.

Losing to Hawaii.....good grief...that would truly suck.

So...LSU gets that honor.

And, once again, it's off to the "If only we'd played a little better" Bowl.

With apologies to Erik Ainge for saying this, I'd like to see Crompton start the bowl game. It's time to see what "next year" will look like.

Won't happen, but that's my vote.

go vols.
