(sigh)

I guess the bright side is that we won't have to watch Colt Brennan throw for 500 yards against our secondary.

Losing to Hawaii.....good grief...that would truly suck.

So...LSU gets that honor.

And, once again, it's off to the "If only we'd played a little better" Bowl.

With apologies to Erik Ainge for saying this, I'd like to see Crompton start the bowl game. It's time to see what "next year" will look like.

Won't happen, but that's my vote.

go vols.
I actually said the same thing after the second pick. :ermm:

Agree with jakez about the defense... I came away thinking they played fairly well, which is hard to believe considering they gave up 470 yards. They were on the field all night, though. They deserve a month off after their last two games alone.

One good thing, every year we lose the SECCG, we murder our bowl opponent.
I know but does it really matter and to who. 9-5, 10-4 not much difference there. It is still just another mediocre season. Herbstreet said it best if you like 8-4 every year phil is the guy. I agree.

Hamilton's mind is made up. The "Seven-digit Booster Club" already made it up for him.

It is what it is.

Although I was, am, and probably will remain a "NegaPhil"...I was very impressed by how he rallied his team around him over the past six games. For better, or worse, Philip Fulmer is a good man, and I must admit it's rewarding to see Phil answer his detractors...me included.

Go win the bowl game, Phil. I'll be pulling for you.

go vols.

01 was the worst considering what was on the line. But this one hurts more than 04.

at least in 04 we weren't even supposed to be there we were too young, but you though how great is this to be here this year and we should be here the next 2yrs as well. Oh well this game hurt because Ainge is a senior and he cost us this game I know people make mistakes but a senior shouldn't make 2 of them with the game on the line. What I also don't understand is why we ran that bunch formation and drove right down the field with it and then we don't use it again

Here's mine. You can't blame this one game on the coach, nor exhonorate them. Our short comings tonight were self evident. Looking at the big picture, we're no better off...

-By all rights, we really should not have even been there

-Having said that, we should not have lost...

-Flynn out
-Doucet out
-Dorcey out
-Holliday out
-Perilloux injured
-Williams out
-Coaching distractions
-We don't throw deep
-We have speed to throw deep
-After 13 games, we still haven't developed them to be useful in their speed. Their on D or the sideline.
-We're one dimensional.
-'Nough said

Expected result achieved. Coaching did not earn the extension overall based on season as a whole, or exemption from replacement.

threads.

there are 4 things that just piss me off right now.

1. Erik Ainge. Rasputinvol...........i'll only say this, i hope you take no satisfaction in being right. the two picks were UNFORGIVEABLE. i hate it for EA. but the truth is, those were two awful throws in the 4th qtr of the SEC title game. we had our chance. and we blew it.
2. Daniel Lincoln, you're no Jeff Hall. make your fg's i think the play calling is a little different the rest of the way.
3. David Cutcliffe. i'm all for running the ball. i'm all for throwing the ball. i think there were points in the game where your play calling was phenominal. but the majority of the time, our 1st down play calling was awful. we time after time set up 2nd and long which more times than not led to 3rd and long. it was feast or famine on 1st down. either we got another 1st down or we were in 2nd and 10. i can honestly only recall one 2nd and short (less than 3 yards) the entire game.
4. 3rd down defesne. we did much better in the 2nd half, but there was a point where LSU was 9/15 on 3rd down. that's ridiculous.

now to the positive. Eric Berry is everything he's hyped up to be.. Jerrod Mayo left it all on the field. i thin the defense, on the whole played relatively well.....after all they only gave up 14 points. Austin Rogers......the ONLY TIHNG YOU CAN DO is catch the ball, yet you had a couple of drops tonight that were HUGE. i can't tell you how many times after someone made a play i said "true freshman". that's a good thing. Gerald Jones, Danarius moore, Dennis Rogan, Eric Berry, all had solid contributions to this team and this game.

sadly though, this game unfortunatley came down to two things.........poor qb play and missed fg's.

i'm sure by tomorrow this will be buried behind 3 pages of pissed off vol fans, but i think on the whole as i watch the game culminate in to what it wound up being.....daniel lincoln and erik ainge cost us the game. i hate to even say that, but i cant' watch it and say otherwise.

what a ride. i'm glad we made it to the game to begin with, but to lose it the way we did........................................................well let's just say i probably won't sleep very well tonight.

i feel the worst for the players. it was right there.

sigh, deep breath, shake of the head...........another Newcastle................shocker.

man this sucks.

drink another newscastle or 50 for me.

As disappointed and frustrated as I am to see us lose this game, I shudder to think of what Hawaii's offense would have done to us.

Now, if we lose another bowl game to another Big Ten school, I may just self-combust.

true, but it was an errant throw....and EA had several of those.

there's no sugar coating EA's performance tonight...he wasn't very good, plain and simple. and i truly do hate it for him. his legacy is crap now. he's the guy that lost the SEC title for us.

the 3rd and 17 got me. as good as our d played on 1st and 2nd down most of the night to not get off the feild more often was extremely frustrating.

Sadly, this has been typical of coach Chavis defenses lately. I was a big proponent of coach Chavis, feeling like he saved us from having much worse seasons during the Randy Sanders era, but if he doesn't have two NFL caliber lineman playing for him his defenses look rather pedestrian.

The 3rd and long thing kills me. How many times do you see a 3rd and 15 and the receiver is given a 17 yard route?

well the sun did come up today.

i fell much better now than i did when i posted this thread originally. but that's not saying much. to hear people now say "LSU had the game handed to them", well, it stings.

all things considered,i'll echo some things i've read........i won't argue with or contest the effort the players put forth last night. as frustrating as it was to watch them convert every 3rd down, the defense still played well enough for us to win. Mayo, Berry, Bolden, McCoy, Mckenzie, et al..all had moments in the game that made me say "wow", in a positive fashion. Offensively, again, i think the effort was there. Foster got off to a good start and EA was just not on, and he never got it turned on. The WR's were OK........briscoe and taylor both had good nights, rogers was a tad too inconsistent for my taste. Gerald Jones is going to be very good for us.

and i do think the coaches had them pretty well prepared, they had a good game plan, and they had enough "different" stuff in there to make the LSU D honest at times.

as i said before this game came down to our players making big mistakes at the worst possible times. and i do hate it for those players, it happens. but these are the same players that did show a ton of heart over the past 5 weeks as they took us on a roller coaster of a ride to finish this season.

on to next year. i think the future may be a little brighter than it seems right now.
