I don't think they get rid of him especially since we went to the SEC Championship last year, and especially if some miracle from God that we beat Georgia and Bama.....my opinion........he stays....

Scoop: Spurrier to Tennessee?

There’s a lot of talk that if Phillip Fulmer is fired as the Vols’ coach, Tennessee could go after native son and current South Carolina Coach Steve Spurrier. There’s increasing speculation that CSS thinks he may not be able to right the ship in Columbia. If those rumors are true, UT could be his way out…

Other Tennessee Names: Tampa Bay Bucs Coach Jon Gruden, Duke Coach David Cutcliffe, ECU Coach Skip Holtz, Auburn Coach Tommy Tuberville…

Skip Holtz=no
Tuberville=no
Cutcliffe=no unless they want to stick with the system
I'm sure they will go after big names first.

Agree. Gruden ain't happening. I would take Tuberville in a heartbeat as long as he didn't bring Franklin with him. Spurrier has no QB to work with @ SC. If he came to UT he would be in the same position.

I believe the game may be passing Spurrier by just as it is for Phil. I would have wanted him here a few years ago, but not now.

Spurrier just doesn't have the fire anymore. I can't believe so many people continue to bring up his name. He has ten times the recruits in his own state right now and can't even beat out Tommy Bowden down there for them. I posted this in another thread, but if Spurrier can't even beat out Tommy for the 4 stars in SC, how is he going to beat out Carrol, Stoops, Tressel, Meyer, Richt and everyone else for the 4 and 5 star national talent that has to be brought to UT?

I'am not going to get into the spurrier for coach thing. But the university of tennessee would sell itself better than the university of south carolina. Spurrier wouldn't have to work as hard to get those guys here,than he would at Carolina. But as far as spurrier as our next coach. Next please.

But USCe shouldn't be selling itself short of Clemson. Especially with Spurrier at the helm. If he can't beat out Clemson for the really good in state talent, being Steve Spurrier won't bring talent talent to UT that would have otherwise went to Southern Cal, Oklahoma, Florida, Ohio State, etc. Tennessee can't win if we can't steal recruits from the states like Texas, Florida and California. Thanks to Butch Davis (who is not too old btw), we can't even get talent from N. Carolina anymore.

Why would we want him? Spurrier would just be a quick fix. He retires in 5 years no matter where he is. We need stability at HC, Spurrier doesn't give us that.

also, as petty as this seems, it's big to Spurrier. He's 5 hours away from Augusta National if he lives in Knoxville. In Columbia, he's just an hour away.

I wouldn't want a coach who wants to coach a team just because he is close to his favorite golf course. Shows his dedication to USC.
