My choices are Bill Cowher first, Butch Davis second. Like I have posted numerous times, take a blank check to Cowher. Make him say no. Then make him say it again. If he still says no, take said blank check to Butch Davis, rinse and repeat. I heard that Davis is only making $1.8 mill @ UNC. Time to sack up, take Bama's lead, and go pay for the best coach out there.

Here's a thought. Offer Saban $5 mill per year...[/QUOTE]

Noooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Saban is the devil. :yuck:

You don't think Butch Davis wouldn't seriously consider UT? He's at UNC, which isn't exactly a big time football school. I think he would definitely listen.

Hi im new on to the board, but have always been a Vols fan. I do not see a GOOD SEC Coach that will jump ship. Except, Steve Spurrier. He is a better Coach then is being shown at USC. He is not happy with SC, and I think it would be scary with what he could do with the talent at UT. I just don't see another Coach that could spark UT like I know he could. It would be nice to be feared again.

Spurrier hates UT...he'd never come.

UT can break the bank and beat Saban's salary by $500K. A $4.5 million offer would attract any coach in the country, including Stoops. UT needs to go after the best, not some unproven up and comer type of coach.

Agreed, a homerun hire is required at this time.

I think Bill Cowher is our best bet. He not only is a good coach but he can bring crazy recruits(whos not gonna play for a superbowl winning coach?) i think high school players around the country would swarm to UT. I hear Cowher has the itch to coach again and he wouldnt mind coaching college. But ofcourse i must be dreaming D: Fulmer needs to go but Clawson should stay. He's only been here for 4 games. gotta give the man a chance

why does everyone have this fantasy of cowher coaching in knoxville? it's not gonna happen.

I have watched many a football game and Ive never seen such inept football. We never started a drive deeper than our own 40 yard line today except for one time, and that one time we fumbled giving Auburn 7 points. We lose by 2, meaning that gift was the difference. In the Florida game, you take the punt return away, and say we score both times we gave it away inside the 2 yard line, and its 14-13 Tennessee at halftime. All I want is someone to tell me why we cannot capitalize on the opprotunities we are given during games. Did all this start with Casey Clausen??? Does the past 8 years of Tennessee football occur if we beat Georgia in 2001?? I think it was with the Hobnailboot incident? Casey getting off the bus after beating Florida in December with a Rose in his mouth before losing to LSU in the SEC Championship game? WHEN DID IT GET TO THIS????

Why is Crompton still in the game? He would be a bad QB at Carson newman. Arian Foster has made more mistakes in four years than most backs would make from highschool to professional ball.

No one respects us any longer. No one is worried about playing us anymore. No one has us circled on their scheduled. Tennessee has become insignificant. Its only going to get worse too, as long as we settle for the performances we have seen the past 10 years on a consistent basis. Alabama and Auburn have that state on recruiting lock down. Florida and Miami have that state on recruiting lock down. Georgia has locked that state down. North Carolina, Texas, and LSU all have their respective states locked down. Tennessee is not the talent pool that those states are. Its going to take a change in philosophy to turn this team around, and its obvious that a change in coordinator will not be sufficent.

Chris Petersen, Boise State
Bronco Mendenhall, BYU
Dan Hawkins, Colorado
Skip Holtz, ECU
Mike Leach, Texas Tech

I think those guys have to be your top 5 prospects. Say what you want about Skip, but I honestly could care less about the name now, if he would improve my team, then I'll take him. Give me one good reason why any of these guys wouldnt work, and I'll change my mind. But saying one guy wont work just because he is the son of the most annoying analyst in sports is ridiculous.

Its time for Mike Hamilton to either find a new head coach, or find a new job!

Very well stated. Kudos for an awesome thread that doesn't rely stupidity for backup. Cheers. :clapping:

Screw Saban,Don't want any prostitutes at my damn school  Peterson would be fantastic personally, Davis as well...I was teasing some UNC fans yesterday after the ballgame and told them We were going to steal thier coach from them, they looked at me and said, Well you had better have a big check book hahaha...I said, We are the University of Tennessee, We can BUY anybody We want...They got real quiet lol, I told em to relax, Basketball season was around the corner :shaking2:

I also like the idea of hiring Spurrier for a few years and get his kid a few year under his belt and let him take over when Steve decides to retire...Just a thought

We need a proven winner that we know can recruit and coach. That cancels out all of your spread option guys. Holtz isn't the answer anywhere except Conference USA and Mike Leach is completely insane(i would hate to see him in a high profile job where he would be under a microscope everyday).

We need to go after a Bill Cowher or Lovie Smith.

If we can get him, Butch Davis would solve everything...

Muschamp is the solution. We wouldn't have to break the bank to get him and he's a proven commodity.

Even if we would have kicked the field goal we would have lost 14-13 because we have a QB by the name of CROMPTON. Who knows maybe we would have got the two point conversion if he would have thrown it into the endzone. Who knows what was going through his head he might have thought you earned 2 points by just gaining yardage. :lolabove:

Fire Fulmer today and replace him with Johnny Majors for the rest of the season (Attack-Attack-Attack). That's irony!!! You'd have the rest of the season to find someone for next year. Majors would probably do it for free.:ripped:
