I have watched many a football game and Ive never seen such inept football. We never started a drive deeper than our own 40 yard line today except for one time, and that one time we fumbled giving Auburn 7 points. We lose by 2, meaning that gift was the difference. In the Florida game, you take the punt return away, and say we score both times we gave it away inside the 2 yard line, and its 14-13 Tennessee at halftime. All I want is someone to tell me why we cannot capitalize on the opprotunities we are given during games. Did all this start with Casey Clausen??? Does the past 8 years of Tennessee football occur if we beat Georgia in 2001?? I think it was with the Hobnailboot incident? Casey getting off the bus after beating Florida in December with a Rose in his mouth before losing to LSU in the SEC Championship game? WHEN DID IT GET TO THIS????

Why is Crompton still in the game? He would be a bad QB at Carson newman. Arian Foster has made more mistakes in four years than most backs would make from highschool to professional ball.

No one respects us any longer. No one is worried about playing us anymore. No one has us circled on their scheduled. Tennessee has become insignificant. Its only going to get worse too, as long as we settle for the performances we have seen the past 10 years on a consistent basis. Alabama and Auburn have that state on recruiting lock down. Florida and Miami have that state on recruiting lock down. Georgia has locked that state down. North Carolina, Texas, and LSU all have their respective states locked down. Tennessee is not the talent pool that those states are. Its going to take a change in philosophy to turn this team around, and its obvious that a change in coordinator will not be sufficent.

Chris Petersen, Boise State
Bronco Mendenhall, BYU
Dan Hawkins, Colorado
Skip Holtz, ECU
Mike Leach, Texas Tech

I think those guys have to be your top 5 prospects. Say what you want about Skip, but I honestly could care less about the name now, if he would improve my team, then I'll take him. Give me one good reason why any of these guys wouldnt work, and I'll change my mind. But saying one guy wont work just because he is the son of the most annoying analyst in sports is ridiculous.

Its time for Mike Hamilton to either find a new head coach, or find a new job!

I think Casey Clausen was a really good quarterback. I don't think Georgia 2001 has anything to do with the recent decline.

Any of the coaches you mention would be good with the exception of Skip Holtz.

NO to Skip Holtz...what has he done to make him seem good?....He beat an average VT team, and a bad WV team. Now ECU loses to NC State and Houston....

I dont mean for it to sound like I dont like Casey Clausen or anything like that. I know he was one of the best QB's to come through Tennessee. Im just saying, starting with his class, I cant think of any real leaders for our Vols to date. Now grated Im frustrated and thinking fast, but no one really comes to mind. Can someone help me to that end???

Why is everyone down on Skip Holtz???? Look at what he has done at ECU!

Whatever they plan to do it needs to be done now. The staff put its recruiting eggs in the early commitment basket but it's turning out to be hard to hold onto fickle prospects when they see the team looking like doodoo on national television. If an announcement is made ASAP recruiting might be salvaged. Even if the current staff is permitted to finish the season as a sort of victory lap, a new head coach for the 2009 season needs to be named this week. The Vols can hardly afford three out of four recruiting classes to be down. Not to mention that if the Vols sit on thier mitts most of the "sexy" head coaching prospects will be off the table. This is the time for the AD to be proactive and show everyone that the university is committed to upholding the tradition of excellence that General Neyland started for us. Go Vols!

Not a new name but look what Cutcliff is doing at Duke. If he can do that as the head man at Duke what could he do at Tennessee???? It seems out decline starts each time he leaves. Any thoughts?

I still say Bill Cowher. We need his tough in your face way of coaching.

Agreed.

What this team needs and has needed for a very long time is discipline. The inmates have been running the prison forever around here. Cowher strikes me as a take no crap kind of guy. Fact is, without discipline, no game plan is going to work.

Very interesting, but we need a good recruiter. Cutcliffe is fine in all other faucets of coaching though.

Would Cowher come here though? I don't know if he would want to coach college football.

Do you people honestly think for a second that Davis or for that matter
Stoops would leave OU to go anywhere?

Or that the current flavors of the week that didnt lose this weekend..Hawkins,Leavitt, or Holtz(whose ass was handed to him AGAIN) is a stable long term solution?

Etc..Etc..

Stop with the 14 year old wishlist BS and concentrate on (if it comes to it) candidates who arent 30 years old(or 60 for that matter)and actually could bring something to SEC football except end arounds and cheerleading on the sidelines..

BTW Cowher doesnt wanna coach anywhere..and Gruden has run TB into ground since backing into the Super Bowl.

JB, Muschamp has been my top choice for awhile. Great defensive mind. Think about the recruiting doors that would open to him having played at UGA and coached at LSU, Auburn and Texas. GaTech did someone an awesome service by not hiring Muschamp as their new hfc last year. My guess is that some team in the Southeast is going to make a run at him before the season is up. Why not let it be UTK?

My choices are Bill Cowher first, Butch Davis second. Like I have posted numerous times, take a blank check to Cowher. Make him say no. Then make him say it again. If he still says no, take said blank check to Butch Davis, rinse and repeat. I heard that Davis is only making $1.8 mill @ UNC. Time to sack up, take Bama's lead, and go pay for the best coach out there.

Here's a thought. Offer Saban $5 mill per year...

I don't think either Cowher or Gruden would come. Also there wouldn't be any chance to get Stoops. I do think Butch Davis would consider us. I think he is the best coach that we could possibly land.

I don't think we will see anyone though IMO. I think Fulmer will make it through the year.
