I have to see what the product is we put on the field against WVU. I trust but I require verification.

Especially if we beat WV. We get two tune up games before we get Florida at home. I'm telling you now Pruitt is going ALL IN against the Gators Sept 22. We can do this we got enough Talent we just need to fight all 4 quarters. Who else believes?!?!
it'd be kinda hard to go 4-0 w/out doing that..lol.

I've been saying it for months. We'll finish 8-4. We win 2/3 between WV, Fla, and SC, and we will go undefeated in November. Book it!

I think Florida is very winnable. It’s hard to win on the road in the sec. I’d love to see us steal the West Virginia game but they get the ball out quick and play in space. Our secondary is awful.. we can’t tackle in space and having to guard 4-5 wide the whole game is asking a lot with our talent level. Give Pruitt 2-3 years to bring in his guys and we’ll be fine. I’m not sure we have 1 dB that can play tough press man and not get burnt, let alone 4-6.

What has he done his career to make you think he will suddenly become a force on the D line? I think we lose to WVU bc Grier will have all day to pass and he’s got great receivers while we’ve got question marks at corner

Teams over the past few years have had all day to throw against UT do to the schemes we were running, not talent. Teams with very little talent can generate pressure if they are well executed. Nothing on defense over the past season remotely resembles anything well executed

UT is going to have to ramp up its' play against a very good QB in Will Grier. Probably the best passer the Vols faced last season was Tua Tagovailoa of Bama. He came in mid-way of the 3rd Qtr, and put 134 yards on the Vol's defense. He really only threw the ball for about one qtr; Bama was content to run between the tackles in the last half of the 4th. The UT defensive line did a reasonable good job of pressuring him, but the back-half of the defense was confused, and out of position on a lot of the plays. I expect CJP to rectify a lot of those issues, but just don't know if he will have enough time before facing WVU.

And if you’re good enough to go 4-0, hell, you’re good enough to go undefeated and win it all!

If we can get pressure on Grier I like our chances. I just don’t think we will be able to. People are forgetting how thin we are on the D line too. We should be content with 5-6 wins this year and at least beating Vanderbilt
Lots of hybrids on this defense. D. Taylor, J. Allen, A. Smith, Q. Sapp, W. Ignont. D. Johnson, J. Kongbo, K Bennet most having experience playing DE and LB. Interior linemen consist of S. Tuttle, A. Johnson, E. Gooden, K. Phillips. M. Butler. G. Emerson K. Harris and P. Bain. Not enough of them but they will have a lot of fresh legs backing them up.

We definitely have the best fans in the sec. We’re just not very talented and there’s only so much good coaching can do. I believe Pruitt will have a good gam plan and have our guys in the right place to make a play but when your first team isn’t really that talented and in the up tempo game wv plays I’m not sure what our guys can realistically do. Bear Bryant always said in the sec you’re only as good as your second string and if that’s accurate we’re just not a very talented football team. Pruitt will fix that in a year or 2 but you have to give it to our fan base. Been kicked around for years and not much talent out there compared to the big boys in this league but our fans have the heart and always believe prior to game 1.

In all the discussion of the WV game the biggest variable has been ignored, the refs. If the referees call touches fouls we are toast. If the refs let them play we win. Somebody please investigate this crew.

Agreed. WV will be our toughest of the four. Although our DB's are questionable, I think we can help them out if we have a NASTY pass rush! The front seven has potential (especially or LB corps) and if they can put Grier on his back all game, regardless of completion or not then we have a chance. Let's not forget that if we can establish ball control, unlike the last staff's BS game plan than it improves our chances. Will be hard for Grier to throw strikes if he isn't on the field.

We were historically bad and won 4 games, they are super duper and only won 7? I'm sorry Grier is ok but if he were special like a Baker Mayfield who came back against us his first year as a Sooner, you could see special all over that guy. Grier is nowhere in Mayfield's solar system. Methinks WVU is waaay overrated in 2018 for a team with 7 wins and we waaaaaay underperformed for a team with only 4 wins. I believe we seriously will put more tallent on the field than the Moutaineers can and will. If we underperform again they blow the Vols out, if a mid range Vols team shows up they they blow the Mountaineers out.

The gators are getting fluffed so much, I doubt they can find helmets to fit their heads. They may have to forfeit the first games of the season.

I was confident that today was the day that I would win the Tennessee Lottery. It didn't happen.

Listen, l don't think we will ever beat Florida UNTIL they give us the game. Every year, we chalk down Florida as a win but we seldom win that game. Stop torturing yourself and us by claiming that we could go 4 - 0 which includes a beating Florida.
I will go over this again.
O
In 1998, we had the best team in modern U.T. history. We played Florida at home. So, we had a roster advantage and home field advantage. We ended up with a "W" In order to get that "W" by the best team we have had in modern U.T. we had to go in to over time and we got the "W" not on a great play or great series of plays that we made but we got the "W" by them making a mistake and missing a field goal.
We have had games in which we thought that we had a slightly better team than Florida and yet, they usually end up beating us.
It will take the starts to align up perfectly before we can beat Florida again OR they will have to screw up so badly that they give us the game.

I agree that while we have a chance, we'll likely lose to WVU. Not sure we have the talent on the DL to get consistent pressure, and our inexperienced DBs will likely need some help from the DL. Our LBs are the only part of the D I'm fairly confident about, and they won't be able generate all the pressure.

As for who is likely to generate pressure from our DL, not really seeing anyone. I'm assuming Tuttle will be filling space, and maybe not in on many too the passing downs. I'm hoping we can improve on the DL and start getting pressure again.

WFV’s defense isn’t great either. This could be a high scoring game, but no one knows what the Vols will bring to the table offensively yet. Will be an interesting game to watch for sure.

I think the key to shutting down WV's offense actually comes down to UT playing ball control power football, eating the clock with long drives and keeping Grier off the field. i have a gut feeling that the Offensive line is going to be the surprise of the year for us and the SEC
