I'm calling "Tennessee" fans out

Here's my stance:

Do I want us to lose? Of course not.

Do I want us to have a top caliber program like before? Yes.

Do we have it? No.

How would I fix it? Get rid of Fulmer and staff. (I understand that some have good points, etc. but a new coach would want to hand pick his own. Not letting him have that freedom may make a few coaches shy away from UT).

How do we get rid of Fulmer? Not with an 8-4 or 7-5. A 6-6 would probably do it.

For all of those who say that they want to see Fulmer go, then you've got to realize the only way to see him go is for us to do poorly this year.

I hate when people say "I want Fulmer gone, but I don't want us to lose games." No kidding, I wouldn't pull for UT if I wanted them to lose.

It boils down to:

I think Fulmer should go (as gracefully as possible) more than I think we should keep settling for mediocre seasons PERIOD.

I keep hearing this over and over. Just what does doing poorly mean? Mike Hamilton is no dumbass and knows what the team is achieving or not achieving based on the talent recruited on the field. He hears the voices, pro and con, from those of us in the rank and file and those with the big pocket books. Hopefully he can see the direction the program is going in and make appropriate adjustments to keep the stadium filled and fans and boosters satisfied. If he can't, we have the wrong AD. As has been stated in here before, when some wanted to give Buzz another year he pulled the trigger and got the Pearl. When this football season is over I expect a reasoned decision to come from his office. That's all I can expect.

Poorly = bottom in the SEC East, 15-12 in our last 27 or so games, 2-5 in our last 7 bowl games, we are .500 against current SEC coaches, Fulmer doesn't have a winning record against: Les Miles, Spurrier, Richt, Tuberville, Saban, or Meyer, we are about 100th or so in overall defense, nearly as bad in overall offense, our special teams are rotten, the fact that we hope we can beat USC and Kentucky this year, blah, blah, blah.

I'm not going to judge MH's decision making until after this season. I give him props on the Buzz/Bruce situation. However, I think that decision is much easier for him to make than the Fulmer one. Again, I'm going to keep an open mind until after the season (depending upon how we finish, etc.)

Additionally, it isn't this year that bothers me. I've plotted some data over our finishes, etc before and since the NC and we are trending downwards in several categories. The trend is what bothers me, not the one loss to Florida or the 2005 season, but our last 5 or so seasons.

That's what I'm talking about and hope and believe Hamilton sees what we're seeing. Like I said, if he can't read what's going down with the program as a whole then we have the wrong AD. Personally, I don't think that's the case.

For those that think they have me figured out.....

1) Any post that mentions "fans" wishing for losses, makes me sick. It wasn't meant to be an attack of the poster.

2) I'm not a Republican. Infact I am leaning Democratic in the next election, but if you think that the Democratic Party isn't the Party of cutting and running, then you aren't a student of American Politics and there are obviously some people here that can't take a joke either.
Yeah, and we would still be in Nam.

While I agree that at no point any fan should desire a loss just to rid of the coach and his staff I do like Volnations open forum and diversity it allows.I'd rather have honest opinions than everyone going around with blinders on as zombie fans and the old "groupthink" mentality that sinks a lot of ships.

Great Post!!!! I agree 100 percent. This board should be all about expression of opinion. When posts start out with "You're not a real Vol Fan if" I can't take it too seriously.

My response to Larkin's statement is this. The only reason that we are all die hard Vol fans is because of the success that UT has enjoyed over the past two decades. I do not fault these fans for displaying their passion and "rooting" for Tennessee to lose in order for a regime change in Knoxville. Teams like Vandy, Ole Miss, Miss St and Kentucky have bandwagon fans. Do you think that the majority of their fans stick with them when times get tough? No. At least the fans that are "wanting" us to lose are looking at the big picture and realize that this season (based on horrendous play in the first four games) is most likely going to be a loss. We might as well get this season over with and look toward the future. If Fulmer lucks up and wins 7 out of 8 and goes to the Outback Bowl, it is a terrible thing for Tennessee football because he will stay and get a vote of confindence from the AD. I guess that some fans are just getting use to mediocrity. Most importantly, we will continue to be dominated by teams like Fla, Ga, LSU, Auburn. UT has too much talent year after year to be an underling to those teams.

i agree with you too! how can you week in and week out want them to lose? those aren't real fans. GO BIG ORANGE beat them DAWGS

I never root for the VOLS to lose. Just upsets me to see us in this state of mediocrity. Now let's go and beat the dogs.

It upsets me when you shot confetti out your shotty on GoW. Doesn't mean you get fired :p.

I agree with you as far as mediocrity, but unless we bring in the RIGHT coach once Fulmer leaves you had better get ready for more 8-4 7-5 type seasons.

Not a Fulmer apologist here, just want us winning again with whoever is at the helm! Nice Gears tie-in there gatorhater!
