I'll lay the blame elsewhere...

Lol when was the last time you saw this called?

There's a story out there on it from a year or so ago, it was last known to be called in the NFL or major college, in 1991. The officials are apparently instructed to only call it in extremely blatant situations where the ball carrier has absolutely no way to move the the ball forward on their own. The 1991 call featured a player laying flat on his back on top of players, being dragged by a very stretched jersey, into the endzone. One ref in the article said he didn't call it once in his 40 year career at any level of football.

Did not like the call. Did not care for using Wright over small. Worst decision was allowing them to sub in their bigs.

Poor offense on that last drive. We could have easily made it down the field another 15 or 20 yards to make the field goal. Nevertheless, we ended up pushing our luck into OT and were ultimately screwed into a loss. We put ourselves in that situation where the prisoners (refs) could seal the casket.

UT has been unable to score late in games all year. They are not putting 60 minutes together yet. Some of us have been telling you this all year. That was the whole running joke with "going for 70"... and playing "smart ball". I have been putting blame on depth issues, and hopefully it gets corrected.

We all play the “arm chair” and “should a”………however if the referee doesn’t make a phantom decision……..it’s all moot.

let’s say Tennessee kicks and Purdue scores a TD……many of these same folks would be screaming that Tennessee “could” have ran that ball in and probably won the game.

Good thing that wasn't the case here, we scored 3 touchdowns in the last 5 minutes of the game and in overtime, though the officials stole the OT touchdown.

Yeah, we were screwed, but I blame the loss more on the clock management and play calling in the last minute of regulation.

From listening to the the presser, I think he knows he screwed up the end of regulation calling 2 straight running plays. I get what he was trying to do, but between that and not taking timeouts, he really ate up the clock and cost us 2 or 3 snaps.

I had no problems with the running plays. I have a problem with the usage, or lack there of, of using our timeouts . Imo There were too many times yesterday where we didn’t allow our skill guys to use their skills and get YACs. With 3 timeouts we could’ve used the entire field on that last drive, but we kept throwing to the boundary. It’s almost like Heupel loves the challenge of going fast in the last minute just to prove how fast he can go down field. I really am happy about the direction of our football program, and I hope that CJH will address some things that caused us to come up short (literally) in 3 games this season.

I wish people would stop posting the "rule" on how this play was illegal.

So how about NCAA Rule 9-3-4 (defensive holding) and ask Tillman about his shirt being grabbed at the end of regulation, but since no flag was thrown then nothing we can do about it. Happens every game when an "NCAA rule" is violated, but if no flag thrown, there is nothing we can do about it. Same logic applies on the TD/No TD by Wright.

I kinda understand not going for 3 in regulation. I don't have much faith in our kicker honestly but the field conditions weren't that good.
In OT after we went for it on 4th and got it the first time. I think that last time we should've took the FG.
Our D had time to get a little rest and the redzone is pretty much the only good D they played last night, they kept Purdue out of the end zone and had an INT down there.
Not taking the FG took all the pressure off Purdue. They knew at worst they'd play another set of downs, but they could run a play or two to try and get the TD otherwise play for position to kick the FG.

Defense has to improve, and get more depth and trust that depth to play that depth. Because at hype’s break neck pace early, he puts so much pressure on the opponent by jumping to big leads our D is running out of gas in the 2nd qtr on out thus allowing teams to get back in it. At 21-0 or 21-7. A fresh rotating D with quality depth would allow us to maintain those big leads from the start.

I wouldn't have because I felt taking the 3 was the higher percentage option
I felt like after we got the 4th down the first time, trying it again was too much of bad choice...
Putting 3 on the board forces Purdue to respond. Putting nothing on the board pretty much took all the pressure off Purdue.
The D played good redzone defense last night. They had time to sit and rest during the end of regulation, the tv timeout ,coin toss and our offensive drive
I would've trusted them to step up and do it again and hope for a win or a 2nd OT if they failed to stop the FG , if it went to addition OT's then maybe pressing would've been better.

I also would have liked to see UT do what the Titans do with Tanny and Henry...seen the Titans plenty of time use Henry as the decoy and Tanny just trots into the endzone.
UT needs a big smash mouth back if we're going to try and punch it in on the goal lines

What I couldn't understand was those two go for broke pass plays into the end zone when all we needed was 10-15 yards to put the kicker in a good position. At least they stopped the clock. Heupel was apparently saving his time-outs for winter.

I agree but… both throws were there and the 2nd one had a missed PI/holding.
