I'll get bashed for this but it's the truth..

My biggest problem was that the coaching staff's game plan was to mail it in. The players know when coaches are conceding a game by the impotent play calling and respond accordingly.

Bama is two or three deep with 4 to 5 star talent. Were not. If we ever hope to compete with them our recruiting has to improve or never have injuries. Since injuries will happen the recruiting must improve.
We truley are not getting the quality type athletes we need at LB and DB to continue to contend in this league. I'm not certain the better ones we are getting are being developed properly.Maybe after the bye week and an extra week of healing we'll look and play better. Gotta remember the Appy ST. and Ohio games if only for a measurement marker to gauge whether or not there is any real improvement. We don't need these remaining games to go into the 4th qtr. with a close score. We need to go out and play quality ball and let our younger, less experienced players get a feel for the game because this is by far the best way to develop them. These close games against mediocre opponents are forcing us to continue to have to use 1st stringers the entire game and we end up shooting ourselves in the foot more ways than one. We may not be as good as we'd like to think we are. Almost everyone is expecting us to win out and have a shot at the East title and play in the SECCG. We shouldn't be in this position. When T-A&M had us 35-34 and we were lining up to kick xtra point shoulda had JJ line-up at left end and Wolfe at right end and when ball was snapped instead of kicking the holder would lateral back to JJ as an end around and depending on how defense played, JJ could run it in or if a defender came out to tackle JJ he'd have time to pass it to Wolfe who had actually just blocked down on the rusher who would have the best chance to stop the end around. It's called a fake FG and last time i saw it was LSU running it. It would have put us up 36-35 and we'd went thru that 4 game stretch 3-1. Like many are posting, mediocre play-calling is affecting this team such as we saw today and we have the offensive athletes to play at a higher level and someone is responsible for holding us back and i hope we see after this bye week some real football with the intent to win out. I think our motto this year is" own it" so i'm waiting to see it become a reality. I've witnessed 2 straight losses after 11 straight wins. I've been praising Debord the past several weeks and I'm not a fair weather fan either. He stunk up Neyland today and that's just the way it is.

I don't understand why people are so afraid of negative analysis. We got romped in every way imaginable. Just pretend that didn't happen? Ignore the problems? Struggles and criticisms are prerequisites for success. Embrace it, learn from it, but don't let it define you. Butch has done a phenomenal job getting TN back on the map. It's not all or nothing. We just have to continue to progress.

You do realize we had to insert a true freshman that was supposed to redshirt at right tackle today due to Hall getting injured and a redshirt freshman at left tackle due to Kendrick getting injured. This was on top of Weismann and Robertson already out due to injuries. We basically had 1 starter on our O line vs. The #1 team in the country

What team has our o-line overpowered this year or any year since butch has been here? I'll hang up and listen

HOnestly this is the best roster Butch will EVER have here and the best he and his staff can do is hope that UF loses at least 1 more and we win out to win the East. Next year will be a step back with major loses on both sides of the ball and only 3-low 4* replacements and after that we will be licky to be the 3rd best team in the East which will make us like the 9th in the SEC.

This staff needs to start recruiting TOP talent because we are out of legacies and even those aren't buying in any more. Because to be elite again we need to be able to at least win the East every other year at the least. To do that he will need the best of the best talent wise and right now he's not getting that while UF UGA Bama LSU Tam are loading up with 4-5* talent. How do you all think that will pan out with how he coaches on game day and the people he's shown to hire? We are only winning this year because we are more talented. We wont be next year or any year after unless he can bring in some top recruits instead of the 20th or worst at each position.

I agree. Its really looking like the momentum in recruiting is slowing down. We seen last years class come in around 14 according to 247 & Espn. Theres going to have to be some major additions to the 17 class, or its going to be worse than the 2016 14th rank. It was really a bad nightmare of a day, to have big time recruits in the house! Here we are in year 4 with Butch, and we have a senior QB to lead our team, and we get throttled 49-10 inside our house! Im just not buying into the direction that Butch and his staff have going anymore.

Northwestern University on line 1. Iowa holding on line 2. And "How many games this year have we actually fielded a healthy first string line?" left a voice mail for you!👌

Cause I actually give two sh*ts about our football team. I know you won't admit it but all you're good for is being a negative ass hat who can't stand to see the Vols do good in anything. You call yourself a true fan? You're a fraud who spends 99.9% of his time lurking on Volnation to find something negative to talk about. You make fun of me when you're the one who acts like a clown on the internet. I don't know everything but I'm pretty positive that I know more than you ever will. Get a life or go be miserable somewhere else.

Sorry, I don't pump sunshine after a loss like today. There's was nothing postive today, Unless you count getting another 3 star to commit as postive

Good coaches find ways to win, injuries happen to all teams. Getting beat the way we did is unacceptable, period!

Aaand you know how to do better? You know a "top tier SEC level coach" who was available and would take the job when Butch was hired?

No you don't. Period.

Does naming those 2 teams make you feel better about our o-line development under this staff?

I will always pull for UT no matter what. But with that said the coaches quit on this team withe play calling on 1st and 3rd down. This was hands down the worst loss I've seen UT take since I ve been watching for the past 20 years. If you have team that is resilient you don't stop trying half way through the game.

Blah Blah , Blah here is one of these you are not a real fan thread if you don't except the product that you seen on the field today and injuries on the D must have affected the pathetic play calling on offense and a OL coach that cant teach a kid to block air. BJ is what he is and he is nothing but a wanna be big time coach , he was in over his head from day 1.

CBJ over his head sort of like Smart, Stoops, Mason, Odom, Muschamp, Mullen, Ogeron...right.

So we should commend the staff for their excellent game plan today. Seems about right. Lol

Not sure how one game plans when the team has 2 DB starters out, 2 LB starters and 2 backup out, 2 DL starters out, 4 OL starters out, and a backup WR gone, against the #1 team which I don't think had anyone out. Can't believe the incredible string of injuries, but they never had a chance with all the injuries.

the way things went in the first Qtr, I think its just a matter of needing him breathing the rest of the way. you never know when he may be a little banged up. I bet Butch wouldn't even let him tell his mom if he was, lol.

I know it looked bad, but I still believe in this team. Way to many injuries. I want to say a lot, but lets just state the obvious. When we practice in the fall, lets pick 2-3 starters and pull them out like an injury. Let the young guys in to see what they can do. I don't know how the coaches pick or coach this situation, but these last couple of years seem to be surprising them (coaches). GO VOLS!!!!!!
We are a lot better than we showed, maybe in Atlanta we will show the world!!!!!!!

Too many key injuries. Killed us.

We came into this game on crutches & left on a walker; we've got two weeks to get healthy & walk on our own or South Carolina will hand us our head on a platter !!!! Chance to win out get healthy & beat Alabama or A&M in the title game is still within reach !!!

I agree. But why hold back Dobbs? Why not unbuckled the offense? they played like they could muscle them.
O-Line..... what is wrong with you people? Hold back Dobbs? more like trying to keep him alive. We cannot throw down the field not against an opponent like Bama, not with what we have currently. They knew that and bottled up the run and that was that. Most teams cannot outlast us and through most of the season our conditioning and depth allowed us to overcome that.

Injuries have caught up to us eating away at that depth advantage. Worse they have been hitting us on the one real weak spot on this team. O-line. the biggest problem the line has had is injuries I am not sure we have started the same 5 or even started and finished a game with the same 5 starters this year since VT. At some point every single position on the line has been out. That is hell on a position group thats all about jelling.

Good news we have a week to rest up and recoup from injuries and the worst is over.

Bad news. Unless something huge happens we still have the same O-line.

I'm not going to get too worked up about this game. They were the better team. Better players, better coaches, better prepared. They caught us at the end of a physically and emotionally taxing four game stretch without our full complement of players. That doesn't add up to a win for the good guys. On to USCjr. GBO👊👊
