Ignont is no longer with the team

Sort of expected. Especially if most have not used their red shirt and have played 4 games this year.

He played while Bituli was out then wasn't even rotated in much after he returned. He was passed by a Fr and maybe thinks he should not have been?

Either way, better for him to leave and try to find a new start than to stay and potentially be a poison to himself and others.

Tennessee linebacker Will Ignont has left the football program, head coach Jeremy Pruitt said Wednesday.

Pruitt said during the SEC teleconference on Wednesday morning that the junior has "left the team for personal reasons."

As of Wednesday morning his name has yet to pop up in the NCAA transfer portal, but Ignont was not present at practice on Tuesday afternoon.

Tennessee had two players (linebacker Shanon Reid and wide receiver Jacquez Jones) enter the NCAA transfer portal on Tuesday, and Pruitt said at his press conference later Wednesday that both Reid and Jones have left the program.

Ignont started Tennessee’s first two games of the season while Daniel Bituli was recovering from a minor procedure on his knee, but he was not part of the travel roster for Saturday’s loss at Florida.

The junior went into the game as Tennessee’s third-leading tackler with 16 stops, all but one coming in the first two games of the season against Georgia State (seven tackles) and BYU (eight tackles).

Ignont played sparingly in the win against Chattanooga and was essentially benched after he committed a personal-foul penalty by hitting a Mocs offensive lineman in the facemask with his hands after a play. It’s worth noting Ignont has been dealing with a minor ankle injury since the preseason. The score of the game also presented an opportunity for the Vols to give extended snaps to young linebackers like Jeremy Banks and J.J. Peterson as well.

Tennessee coach Jeremy Pruitt told the Vol Network before the Florida game that Ignont was not injured, but didn’t really expound on the reason for the player’s absence in Gainesville.

“When you travel (for SEC road games), you’ve got 70 guys that you can bring,” he said. “(Offensive tackle) Jahmir (Johnson) had to have a little scope done the other day, so he’ll be back. He wanted to make the trip. And we just traveled the guys — the other guys — that we felt like gave us the best opportunity to have success.”

Bituli and star freshman Henry To'o To'o played nearly all of the inside linebacker snaps against the Gators, and Banks, Peterson and junior Shanon Reid also made the trip as Tennessee traveled five inside linebackers for the game.

A former four-star prospect from Huntsville, Ala., who was ranked the No. 114 overall player, the No. 5 inside linebacker and No. 4 recruit in the state of Alabama in the 2017 class by 247Sports, Ignont started a pair of games as a sophomore last season and finished with 47 tackles, the seventh-most on the team, with two tackles for loss.

He played six games as a freshman in 2017.

We are limited to 25 scholly's each recruiting year right?

We need to take in a boat load of WR, LBs, DBs and Linemen. We also need a beefy RB to complement Chandler/Gray and at least one QB.

Someone leave the recruits a VACANCY light on for recruits!

Ignont is a 4* Alabama kid. Only reason he came here was to get immediate playing time. He even said that is why he was considering us in the recruiting process.

I had high hopes for him coming in, but he never saw the field much even though we were depleted at LB the last couple years..maybe he just wasnt as good as he thought he was and is mad it hasnt worked out. Good luck

Ignont is a 80’s Penn St LB....would’ve been an AA then...

Too slow for today’s game..

Maybe true, but I won't lose one minute of sleep over losing any Butch Jones recruit. The sooner this roster is flipped, the better off we'll be.
Not sure about that. The LB position was already incredibly thin and JJ Peterson ( a prize Pruitt recruit) has been a complete bust thus far.

In any other recruiting year, I'd be willing to bet that Pruitt wouldn't have Peterson that high on his board. He was hired with very little time to assemble a class in that first year. He took a shot with Peterson and it didn't pan out. I know most won't agree with me, but I don't count that hastily assembled class against Pruitt. Recruiting is all about relationships developed over several years. What I'm seeing from Henry T, Morris, Wright, etc gives me hope that better days are ahead if Pruitt can continue recruiting well.

Good luck to him. Now the question is was he part of the locker room problem or leaving due to the problem?

You mean the Locker Room Problem as reported from a social media news blogger who couldn't pony up one single source for his story? Or is there some real information being published about this?

Someone said a group in the Jr class was toxic I'm guessing this is one. Good luck to him anyway.

Something is going on and I have never ever seen anyone come forward and say "hey I'm part of the locker room problem".

So with the current state of the team, I think it is very reasonable to think that with a coaching change some of the people there are not going to be happy.

Remember the Hurd issue didn't come out until a couple of years after the fact.

so, yeah I think it is reasonable.
