what 5 realistic candidates for the football and men's basketball coaching positions would you have on your lists in the event you had to fill one of those positions?

Realistic being the hard part. Stickin' with 3 per

Football:
1. Spurrier
2. Gruden
3. Chow

Basketball (Beilein was my guy):
1. Tubby Smith
2. Andy Kennedy
3. Guy at Tulsa

Football

Steve Spurrier
Mike Leach
Chris Hatcher
Jimbo Fischer
Greg Schiano

I have been told by a reliable source that Gruden would have no interest. Ed Orgeron would of course be first choice, but he is building an empire he will never leave.

Basketball

Dennis Felton (not a popular choice I know)
Glenn Cyprien
Mike Anderson
Jay Wright
Tom Crean

That is a pretty generic and safe list. One might also include Tubby Smith, but I don't know how realistic that would be.

I haven't seen anything from Doug Wojcik that indicates he could handle an SEC level program.

I would say the resume fiasco that cost Cyprien the La-Lafayette job will probably eliminate him from serious consideration for a major conference job.

Probably so, but from what I have seen in the last few weeks, that is a tremendous waste.

Chris Hatcher is probably the biggest stretch on my list. What can I say. I am a believer.

Guys play hard, they're disciplined and try to play D. Doesn't have a lot of talent right now (inherited guys) but solid coaching is evident. I'm just not sure about his ability to recruit.

What about Kerry Keating (I think that's his name) the assistant at UCLA who was also at UT?

Just a shot in the dark but maybe Lawrence Frank with the Nets with his UT background.

Keating just took over at Santa Clara.

Football, in no particular order:
Dennis Erickson
Butch Davis - we might be able to get him away from UNC
Steve Sarkisian - not sure how realistic an option he is, considering the Raiders couldn't get him
Jim Grobe - depends on how he fares the next couple of years
Gary Patterson

Honestly, I'm having trouble thinking of good coaches that are hanging around. There were some good ones available the last couple of years, but its seems like most of them have been snagged up.

I considered Jimbo Fisher, but he doesn't have any head coaching experience and nearly became the head coach at UAB recently.

Love Leavitt - forgot him. I wanted to put Kragthorpe, but Louisville is a pretty good job right now.

Notice that hatvol said a "realistic" list. UT wouldn't have a chance in hell getting any of those guys.

Edit: I guess VIA beat me to the punch this time.
