If you were Phil, what would you do?

When I was in Chiro. College I knew at least a dozen students who smoked pot, and many were in their 30's and 40's. Alcohol was served on campus, but when these people do it noboby cares because they're not on the football team.

Are you actually saying that if the same exact thing happened to you that nothing would happen? If what Justin said is true, and he's been in trouble before, he's getting off extremely easy in regards to the city and state in their punishment. First DUI or not... he could be in jail for just under a year.

I went back and re-read the GVX article and they mention it too. My bust, guess I started skimming at the end. Apparently this isn't his first DUI either, so he is definitely at the mercy of the Judge on March 5th.
Best I can tell his probation has expired, and DUI #1 was dismissed. Most they can throw at him is this one charge. That means 48 hours in the hooch, no license for a year, mandatory state DUI school.

Amazing the first DUI was dropped, that is something you just don't see these days...

But the judge can still throw him in there for up to just about a year. I'm not saying he will, but he should see that he's been cited but not charged with DUI before and may use that in his judgement on how to handle Colquitt.

I'd step down because nothing Fulmer has done in the past 5 years has been positive for any facet of the program.

This statement has fallen on deaf ears for alot longer than it should have. Were reaping the rewards now.

I think that most agree that his punishment should be severe because what he done was breaking the law...This is his 6th incident since he was busted for the same thing as a frosh minus the hit and run...I am not sure but in must criminal programs in the country at least there is a 3 strikes and your out policy and this is way beyond that...I also think that Hamilton needs to look a little further into this program and look at the so called coaches of the program as well...These guys are supposed to be the father figure/role models and that is where this program is falling short...I really like Fulmer a lot but this is really starting to piss me off because we are not Miami or Florida State but more and more each year we are looking like it...The reason this kid is still on the team because of the open scholarship program his family has at the University...Just my 2 cents!

Thats one of phil's flaws. He plays favorites, and has for sometime now. It may ultimately cost him. But not on hambone's watch. Its just a huge money game going on up there. They don't have their priority's straight. More about that dollar these days than winning.

Look for MADD to get involved! I don't know how involved they are in K-town area but they monitor cases in these parts! Drop one around here and you better have a very good reason!

I think that Phil obviously needs to:

1. Recruit players with better character.

2. Help players develop character once they are here.

3. Implement some sort of curfew that is enforceable.

4. Approach matters case by case as they arise, but I guarantee you that a general attitude of "one strike and you're out" would prevent a lot of these from happening. It could be one strike and you're out generally with some obvious exceptions.

Phil may just have to make an example out of someone. I think that a lot of these guys have learned how much they can really get away with-just like children do-and are trying to push that line as much as possible. Someone has got to help these guys realize how much their off the field actions effect their on the field actions.
I agree with you. But you know as well as I do people would be all over CPF for not recruiting certain players. Some people have a "win-at-any-cost" attitude. (until it backfires anyway) In any case, at this point, one and done doesn't seem too harsh at all. How many times does a team need to be warned?

I feel like this is similar to the difference between the UT basketball team and the Memphis basketball team. For the most part I feel like we recruit less known more solid men and develop them into great players over 4 years as where Memphis tries to obtain as many already highly talented "one and done" guys as they can and hopes they can mesh and win together. I personally am a fan of the CBP method but at the same time I'm not sure he wouldn't choose a couple Derrick Rose's given the opportunity...

A friend of mine's son played for Alabama when Stallings took over. He said that at the first team meeting, Stallings took the previous coach's thick rule book that listed the punishments for various infracitons and tossed into a trash can. Then he told them that if they did ANYTHING that would embarass themselves, their parents, their teammates, their coaches or their school, there would be Hell to pay and that he (Stallings) would be there to collect. He apparently had very few dicipline problems after that.
I think that if Coach Fulmer sent one or two players packing and permanently dismissed them from the team, whether they were stars or not, that the others would get the message that they had better behave. "Suspended indefinitely" is just a slap on the wrist, since everyone knows that they will eventually be back on the team. Something lioke this does not have to be done as a surprise. He should just hold a meeting and tell them all that if they are arrested and charged with a crime, that they should go ahead and start packing as they will be dismissed from the team permanently. Enforce this rule once, possibly twice, and there will be no furhter dicipline problems. There is no need to go through a bunch of due process for this. Due process will be handled by the court system. You have a right to a fair trial in our judicial system. Playing football, or any other sport, for the University of Tennessee is not a right, it is a privilege, and if you don't care enough about that privilege to keep yourself out of trouble and out of places where you could get into trouble, then you should expect to lose that privilege.
