If you watch the replay vs OU, check out Butch on the sidelines in the 4th quarter.

Butch should have been calling timeouts to give the offense some time after Oklahoma scored instead he was too busy *****ing about a missed call.

Yeah I thought the same thing. Last Ou drive, and butch cries about a missed call instead of managing the game and making sure sutton was lined up on the only OU wr doing anything all night. Gotta keep your cool

I agree! on several occasions and again the other night i was wishing he would call timeout and regroup! More so though when the other team is driving with momentum to rest our D! He doesn't though...

Butch insinuated our team is going through a learning curve of playing big games and closing them out. Does that stand for coaches too?

I've been trying to think of big time coaches. Saban seemed to have pretty immediate success at Alabama, although their program wasn't given to him in shambles. I can't quite remember if he went through a learning curve at LSU. Thoughts?

So you wanted him to call timeout, while leading the game by 7? Brilliant.

Yes, Oklahoma was not going to run out of time and Butch could have given the offense enough time to try and get into field goal position after the kickoff. If There had not been a penalty on the kickoff some extra time would have been needed.

Exactly what I started thinking after the UF loss last year.

I live for Tennessee football. I watch every game I can sometimes watch two at once. I switch from one game to the other all day Saturday. After the Tennessee game I could not watch anything. I just felt like I have had enough. I'm not over it yet and I don't think I will ever forget Saturday. My love of the game has been ripped out. Maybe a Florida win will help I just don't know. I have waited 8 months and counted the days, now I have lost my desire to watch any football. I'm broken hearted and pissed.

You could dial Saban back to his Michigan State days when he was NOT an immediate success. I seem to remember his big win there was when the Spartans knocked off either OSU or Michigan when they were ranked #1 or #2 but maybe not. His last MSU team in his 4th or 5th year was stout.

If Jones is out at UT within three years maybe he goes back to the MAC or maybe he goes to a Big 10/Big 12 teams and becomes a world beater. But after Saturday night, not holding my breath for the latter.

I was in Neyland to see Johnny Majors lose to Army on a blocked punt recovered for a TD in the final seconds in '86.

You'll get over it. Trust me.

We did not get beat by an equally talented team, we got OUTCOACHED REALLY BADLY. If he wanted to sit on the lead, he could at least have used the full 40 seconds each down instead of running a hurry-up offense then running up the middle twice then a 3rd down pass after the first quarter. I still like Butrch, but a man would take ownership of this loss.

He did, and we had more pass plays than run plays in the 2nd half, but who cares about facts.

I have not turned my TV on any College Football News channel, thats how sick i was, i wont turn it on ESPN OR THE sec Network till we kick the ball of Saturday, this was one of the top 5 gut wrenching loses in my 45 years as fan, maybe top 3, we had a 16-16 tie in 85 with UCLA that gave me the same feeling after leading 16-0 with 7.00 to go, we played prevent defense and UCLA scored 2 touchdown and went for 2 twice and made it, it was a tie but it felt like we lost, about the same feeling as Saturday night, i dont care if you live to be a 100 and we win 10 NC you will always remember this past Saturday night and how we lost the game, we played not to lose instead of playing to win, i think the World of Coach Jones and i still think he can carry us back to the top, but this lose is on him, i know he wasnt calling the plays, but thats why he has the title HEAD COACH.

I was at that UCLA game in 1985. Yes, it was painful. But we ended up beating Miami in the Sugar Bowl and finished with a #4 final ranking in the polls that season, even after losing our starting QB mid-season.

This too shall pass. I have been a life-long (50+ years) Vol fan, and I have been through a lot worse than this. My worst recollection is starting a season during the Majors era 0-6. This does hurt, but what doesn't kill us will only make us stronger. On the bright side, we are undefeated in the conference this year. There is a lot of football left. GBO.

We had countless and I mean countless opportunities where 1 play would have made the difference. Just one play.

Granted I thought the coaching was sub par at times but I find it a total stretch if not borderline stupidity to say Jones is a hapless game day coach.

Did he not put his team in position to win countless times? To a team Vegas said would win the game? (they kinda know their stuff). Hard to say the guy was out coached and lost to the degree some on here want to believe.

Does anybody remember Saban losing to Louisiana Monroe and then talking about the Japs at Pearl Harbor in the presser? First year at Bama.

Living in Bama my whole life, I can tell you there was a lot of doubt that day. It passed.

Coaches should probably not make war references. Sabans Pearl Harbor analogy actually was accurate. (We lost the battle but we will win the war). I still don't know WTF Dooley's Rommel speech meant.
