You'll never get a knee jerk reaction from those running the show on the hill. Its not in their DNA. Now lose this weekend and next and i may have to eat those words.

I think Kiffin's a fine candidate. However, there's no reason to rush the process to beat Clemson to him. There are a number of guys out there who would do just as good a job.

I think Kiffin is a good one, honestly, just not 100% sold on him is all.

I know who your #1 is (Davis), but besides that, who is possibly an up and comer that would be a good fit?

I'm not hat but I'd do cartwheels for Brent Venables.

Gary Patterson, IMO, is another good one.

Spurrier has been proven only somewhat above average, at best, when unable to out-talent the competition. Moreover, Spurrier is a retread at this point, his passion is gone and he is no longer on the cutting edge offensively. But most importantly, he isn't a big recruiter. That's a death sentence at Tennessee.

If I were waving the magic wand it would conjure up Butch Davis. Don't be too concerned about age, be more concerned about energy and who he would bring with him to assist. GO VOLS

You said you wanted a guy that has been a head coach but you don't know about Patterson and you like Venables?

Contradictory, yes, I know. I would RATHER have a guy who's been a hbc somewhere, but between those 2 I'd take Venables all day long. Patterson has been at TCU for about 8 years and is still there. You'd think if he were that great someone else would have snatched him up by now.

I see your point.

I think Patterson is one of the most underrated coaches in the game.

Let Clemson have Kiffin! We need Davis, or get a youngster like Venables, Muschamp, or Peterson from Boise.

Patterson and TCU took Conference USA by storm 8 years ago. I believe that they won the CUSA championship their first two years in the league. The next year they moved to the Mountain West (a much more competitive conference top to bottom) and won that. They have been in the top half of the conference since. Here is his bio:

Gary Patterson - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

While Patterson recruits in the talent-rich state of Texas, he must go toe-to-toe with the likes of BCS schools: Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, and Arkansas as well as with the top BCS schools for elite recruits.

I said many months ago that Gary Patterson would be a great fit for Tennessee. I hope he gets the opportunity to interview for the job.

We'll see how he does tonight. With the exception of QB and RB, he has much more talent than BYU. I haven't seen anything that impresses me in the few years I have lived out here and followed the Mountain West.

According to wiki, Minnesota tried, and he turned them down.

You'd say no to Nick Saban?

I would not want Saban. He is a good coach, but I want someone who will be devoted to UT, not some high dollar whore who will run off to whoever will throw more money at him. At the end of the day do you think he gives a crap about Alabama? He is just doing his thing and cashing checks till the next John comes along. :banghead2:
