Just a shot in the dark, but maybe, perhaps, possibly, based on recruiting rankings...
it's not that hard to figure out.
Evidently, it is very hard for some to figure it out!!! "Based on RECRUITING RANKINGS!!!!!!! Wow, I always thought when you Add Talent, it showed up on the field, you know-during games. When you go to the horse races, you can get "Rankings", but they still run the races, your ability to pick winners can easily be measured by your pocket book! Really, it's not that hard to figure out.:hi:
It should be noted, you are 100% correct-when you get all excited over recruits with high rankings, even if they don't produce on the field-that is the easy part to figure out. How to recruit players that ADD to the Vols Football program, is much more difficult, in fact, that is the standard most fans actually care about-those that add to the team, help us WIN a few games. Of course, the jones fan-boys have lead us into an era where winning is second to "good recruiting"! I hope all this is about to change.:hi:
Your CBJ hate glasses are getting in the way. He was a good recruiter, in fact a very good recruiter however, he recruited anyone with a lot of stars whether they fit or not and he also couldn't develop players (nor could his staff) worth a crap. Ergo to say he was a good recruiter is not a lie. To say that the talent didn't translate to the field is also not a lie but due to incompetence as a coach, not from lack of being a good recruiter.
Wouldn't recruiting players that didn't fit kind of work against your argument of him being a good recruiter? I know it would never happen but if he recruited 28 4 and 5 star running backs in a class, the class ranking would look great, but would that make him a good recruiter?
Getting guys that fill needs and fit the system is every bit as important as star ratings when it comes to being a great recruiter.

Solid hire for your OC this year huh?
WTF were you thinking keeping Kamara (NFL rookie of the year/pro-bowler stud) on the bench to keep Hurd (hoping to crack the starting lineup at Baylor) and family happy?
Classy move finishing out the last 2 games of the season for the players that YOU recruited... you're not a very resilient individual are you?
This thread cracks me up. If this thread was started in Aug. 90% of the haters in here would have carried his groceries, mowed his yard, fed the dog and washed his car for him.
Butch didn't change! He's sh*tty in-game coaching, poor player development, and insane excuses have been there the whole time. Evidently a lot eyes opened.
The UT job is/was too big for him. It doesn't mean he can't go back to the MAC and do well. I wish him the best.
Butch has the money to do whatever he wants to do -- or not. He and his family are set for life, so I do not have any sorries to waste on him. Still, I think he really did love being a football coach and wonder if he is crushed at failing at his big shot in the SEC.
Oh sthu.... Jones got paid millions and had 5 years to win a pathetically weak east. The man could not get it done and people were understandably unhappy with that.He was fired... damn some of you guys are bordering on the retard level.
Would your d..bass stay in a job you were fired from, have punks on the internet harassing you and your family, seeing punks anywhere a camera was holding up signs calling for you to be fired? Yea, I didnt' think so.
My guess is none of you little boys would say anything. All you'd do is act like a little middle school girl by grabbing your phone and snapping a pic of him so you could post silly little comments about seeing him on the street.
It's not Butch Jones fault that Bama Dave couldn't find a competent coach that could compete in the brutal SEC. Anybody in their right mind would have taken the job and the $30 Million contract and it's massive perks. He tried his best, it wasn't enough. Move on and show some damn class.

Are you saying we should have given Jones more patience and time?
Serious question.
If I knew we'd end up with Pruitt, yes. You don't get rid of Jones for an unproven Pruitt. Give the man one more year. He had 3 consecutive winning seasons, then bombed. Give him one more to prove the last one was a slip up in judgement.
I'm all for firing Butch, but for someone proven. Not for an unproven like Pruitt. In my opinion, we'll be doing this again in 4 years.
Tennessee hasn't hired a proven coach since Majors.
So, we were all insane to expect anything different this go around.
Still, you can't simply stick with proven failure and might as well gamble on the next guy.
Let's just hope we get lucky this time and hope for the best.
