That leaves 1 player to cover everyone else.

What happens to the other receivers? I'm asking because it sounds like nobody here thinks McElroy can throw a ball which, if the last two games are any indication, he can't.

I hear a lot of "we'll stack the box and take our shot with Ingram" and that's fine but there are some mismatches all throughout the receiving corp if this happens.

For the folks well versed in this Monte D, what say you? How do you eliminate both poisons?

stacking the box doesn't mean you can't cover the wr's
unless bama comes out 5 wide and tries to spread us out..aint happening

this will be a chess match i assure you....berry will be used at los to stop the run

I am not worried about the Defense.... We need to stay in the field with the offense and we will be in this game. We can win if we can stop the run and sustain some drives that produce points. Keep the score low and we will win. The Offense is the big ?

There won't be two manned up on Julio. Safeties will cheat his way but that's it.

This.

There's a good chance Alabama will make us pay with Julio. That's the risk we'll likely take, as Ingram and Richardson will definitely make us pay if we don't pay them due diligence, and just might make us pay even then.

You have to stop Alabama's run game. They score and run out the clock at the same time. So 7 or 8 in the box, see which one is effective. Shadow Julio with Berry. That is UT best option in my opinion. :hi:

I'd say USC laid the gameplan on how to stop ya'll. So Ingram had 200+ yards rushing...your offense still only managed 13 points...

If we put 8 in the box and Bama wants to pass it in run situations, we'll take that. McCelroy won't scary anybody.

Green can go up and get the ball. Personally, I would take Green over Jones. Both are first rounders though.

I am wondering who is going to cover the Bama tight end. He has seemed to be there go to guy in the passing game. He's a big dude and has made some great catches.

Not so sure of that. AJ Green might be the speed guy, but Julio Jones will flat out go up and get the ball. He's harder to cover.

Well its just my OP. I think Jones is a great receiver, but I think our our DB's will know where he is at all time. The only thing that scares me for Bama's O, is their running game.

EB has enough speed and reaction time to see if he is needed on run defense or drop back into coverage. EB is a smart player and alot will be expected of him in this game, if Jones gets space on Rogan EB or JJ will bring the pain.

B-ham don't you worry your pretty little self about what we are gonna do on D...just worry about how you are gonna stop Hardesty, Brown, and G Jones.:)

With eight in the box, Alabama would need to keep a back in the backfield during passing situations or the free blitzer would be lighting McElroy up on every play. The eight in the box would be vulnerable to play-action and screen on the early downs and there would be a lot of one-on-ones in the passing game as you say. It would come down to the athleticism and play-making abilities of Colin Peek vs Rico McCoy or Janzen Jackson, Maze against Art Evans, and Julio Jones vs Dennis Rogan with EB being the free-blitzer. UT would not be able to double team Jones AND put 8 in the box without one Tider being uncovered. USCe decided to double Jones and limited him to zero (0) catches but got gashed on the inside runs. I guess the best way for the Vols to play would be to hit the RB on the way to the QB thereby limiting the decision-making time McElroy has to make his throws.
