With a good coach & sound offensive philosophy look at Purdue. Even down several players their offense still was outstanding and very physical. They were far more physical than Tennessee on both LOS. You can see the impact of a strength program that’s consistent.

Tennessee otoh is a team put together by a first year coach of players from a charade of programs in years past, no identity and various S&C philosophies which has limited development by several players, lack of depth across the entire program.

I trust Tennessee administration sees the problem changing coaches constantly (no other option with last 4). Let Heupel build his program. I expect we’ll see this is a starting point.

UT was down a couple good players too. Were we watching the same game, because our offense man handled their defense.

The narrative about Purdue being out-manned in this game was always a crock. It was a typical media talking point that was repeated over and over again without context.

Our roster was cratered before the season even began, as evidenced by the disparity in available scholarship players between Purdue and ourselves. We saw the effect of this throughout the season and how our lack of starting talent and depth cost us (despite the great effort by our new coach to overcome it). We lost our starting QB, our two best RBs, some of our most talented and experienced linemen, our most talented DB (by all accounts), our two best LBs (one of whom was arguably our best defensive player), etc., etc....

Then, of the players who remained, our best RB (portal), OL (injury) & DB (NFL combine prep) did not play vs. Purdue. But all they could talk about was how poor Purdue was at such a huge disadvantage.

Year 5 vs year 1 as you stated. However, cornbread recruited those DB's.

Their defensive line is a joke. They were not far more physical than Tennessee. Tennessee had over 270 yards rushing. This is stupid analysis.

Tell me a position on the field where Peanuthead left Tennessee in shape to compete with top SEC teams. You might say WR but Tillman was buried on depth chart under jP. Everywhere else on the field Tennessee is whollyfullly undermanned.

Remind me to never read an analysis from you again. TN had almost 300 yards rushing against that bunch. Only reason Vols didn’t score in short yardage in OT was absurd officiating, not Purdue D.

Majority of yardage was on long runs. Purdue DL won their share of critical downs, including the last one! Quoting simple stats is stupid.

I may be off a few but didn’t TN lose about 45 players from the 2020 roster to portal? I never once heard that mentioned during the game but on every danged play heard about them losing a few.

I got tired of hearing the announcers talking about how their roster was decimated. It has happened to about every team in every bowl, please stop making so much media hype.

I hardly ever go watch the other team’s post game but I did Purdue. The entire thing was about how depleted their roster was and how they responded. Only once did they mention anything positive about TN, and it was a general statement about TN being a quality opponent, but how they overcame their missing players.

I said in an earlier post that the risk was we could be over confident, and Brohm could use all the hype of missing players to motivate his team and I think they had little to do with it.

I only look at the evidence of what our program looks like compared to last year. TN did a lot more in 2021 with a lot less talent than in 2020. That is in my mind a great positive trend, and in reality it is going to take 2/3 more good years of recruiting before we can even dream of winning the east.
I will be patient and happy with 8/9 wins during this rebuild.

I very much appreciate our coach, BUT ,
right now, the Purdue coach is better.
He called an excellent game plan.
He played to his strength and our weaknesses.
I know this is nit picking, but it is a game of inches,
we attempted to return 8 kickoffs. Only once did we
get beyond the 25 yard line.
Purdue NEVER made an attempt to return a KO, no matter
the depth, and took possession at the 25 with out risk of
injury or penalty. In a close game like this, a very smart move.

Tennessee didn't "out man" anybody this year other than a terrible Vanderbilt team and the couple of scrubs. Our roster was depleted after the Gump was sent packing (and wasn't in very good shape even before), then the thin positions were hurt further by injuries/transfer/NFL.

Brohm is not a bad coach at all. I wasnt pissed that he was considered a candidate in the search before last. But he’s in his 5th season and despite the outcome yesterday I believe we’re the better team. We played yesterday a little too loose, maybe because it was a ****** bowl game like the MCB that I hope we never return to. Anyway I think we’re better off

This new trend of players skipping bowl games to get ready for the draft, and others entering the portal almost makes bowl games of today almost meaningless. Just look at the other SEC teams in bowl games this season...Auburn, Florida, A&M losing so many players you can't compete. The only players willing to hang around for a bowl game are the 4 playing for the NC. Even if we recruit great players will they hang around for a Music City bowl or Gator bowl?

I love how people keep talking about the players Purdue was missing. Hate to remind people, but Tennessee lost 33 scholarship players last year including multiple 5 stars. Not to mention Alontae opted out, he is only the team captain and best defensive player. Then there are all of the 50/50 calls which all seemed to go Purdue's way. So you will ahve to excuse me if I dont see the logic in purdue missing 3 players being a big deal, especially when they were receivers which brohm even said they were deep at anyway
