If you have to choose...

Would you take White or Howland?

I take White!

(1) Howland sounds too desperate

(2) Are they any other major universities that are interested in Howland? I didn't think so...... Just like Kiffin coming to Knoxville and golfing with Hamilton a few days before being hired. Kiffin had to sell the idea of Orgeron & Daddy Kiffin to Hamilton. No major university wanted Kiffin at that moment either.

(3) Big age difference between White & Howland also. I take White!!!!!!

Howland. I don't care about what he did at UCLA. The guy is a winner and that's what Tennessee basketball needs is more wins. It's a business, not a popularity contest.

#2 is absolutely wrong. Kiffin was the hot name that season and Syracuse offered him their job before he interviewed here.

If the deal with White falls through, who are the other possibilities. I know Howland and Tyndall are two but other names I have seen on here are Ray Harper, Brad Underwood and some others. Maybe someone similar to Pearl who won big at a lower division and has been overlooked. I personally don't think a big personality is as important with a big name coach as it would be with a relatively unknown guy. The guy has to have something going for him for recruiting purposes.

Howland.

The NCAA talk is BS coming from a fan base who was dying to re-hire a guy who lied to the NCAA and was fired for it.

Opining that Kiffin was the hot name is revisionist history; the Volnation spin cycle turned him into something he most definitely wasn't.

Lane Kiffin was considered the lunatic clown that made even Al Davis look sane, primarily because he fired Kiffin.

Everybody was snickering at that UT hire, either privately or publicly; and it didn't take long before everyone knew why.

Oh, and using a rumored Syracuse job offer as proof that he was a hot commodity is one of the funnier things I've read on this site. Syracuse?

They were one of the most pathetic, desperate football programs in the nation leading up to 2009.

They didn't have a single winning season in the 5 years leading up to 2009. They went 16-43 (.271) between 2004 and 2008, with two 10-loss seasons, a 9-loss season, and an 8-loss season.

They were conducting a job search at the bottom of the barrel, rooting around in the dregs... UT saved them the migraine by snatching him up.
