All indications are Hugh Freeze is a hard no from the UT power brokers. O’Brien, Herman, and Malzahn will reject. Marrone and Fisher will never get any real consideration.

From that list, Chadwell and Napier are probably the most realistic options.

Chadwell and Napier wouldn’t be my first choice but I like them both. Their teams play hard

And both would probably wind up being fired after three seasons by a new athletic director.

It would have been nice if you actually said how much it would cost to get the coaches out of their current contracts. For example would we have to pay Liberty 1 million or 10 million or more to get Freeze. I understand he signed a new contract not long ago. Without that information, this is just a popularity poll. Most voters don't care about cost anyway. How many times have I read, "pay them whatever it takes"?

Only ones who would need buyouts would be Freeze, Chadwell, and Napier I think.

Rest were already cut loose by their teams or unemployed in case of Fisher.

The people wanting Malzahn must not have watched how he was handling their QB situation. Nix was average and he stuck with him. And Freeze won with one of his transfer QB's.

The Hugh Freeze infatuation by this fan base is a polar opposite to the reality of what the people who actually make decisions in this league think of Hugh Freeze.

So Chadwell just took a high school team to the top 10, Beat 3 top 20 teams with said HS team including BYU, went 11-1 and named NCAA coach of the year, is an east Tennessee guy, UT fan, and you say no! WTF?
This the the SEC that’s not enough. I do not want a G5 coach and neither should you

At this point if the university keeps him his legs have been cut off from underneath him. His current staff is trying to get the F outta Knoxville. Sports Source reported he is down to speaking to assistant coaches from small schools like Buffalo for example to join his staff because of this. If he is kept then this Administration has put the final nail in our football program.
The Sports Source all agreed that the one known commodity that would take this job regardless of what happens is Hugh Freeze.

If he's fired without cause, I've never seen UT pay that buyout level.

They don't even pay close to what top tier SEC schools do for a good HC and we pay lower than most mid-tier coaches get paid in the SEC.

lol
If they finally step up to the plate (with a big time coach $$$), I'll be happy to eat crow.

Marrone has been a top candidate in the past. Idk why we wouldn’t consider him a top one now.

Not true. Slive didn’t want him hired right after the fiasco at Ole Miss but they’re not interested in stopping him from being hired. That said I don’t see our higher ups to ever consider him.

Considering Mike Slive retired from the SEC in 2015...

And I didn’t say he wasn’t “allowed” to be hired, I said he’s unhireable

A lot of people down on Malzahn, I happen to think he would kill it with Salter at QB. He’s won the conference, played for the national title and beaten Saban more than anyone that I can think of off the top of my head. I know auburn dropped some head scratcher games but wtf do you guys want? What would make you think freeze (who I also like) would be a better option? Ole miss dropped some stupid games as well during his time there.

Hell I meant Sanky. I think we’re in agreement for the most part. I just don’t think the SEC cares. I could see someone like Saban hiring him as an OC at this point but idk why he would leave liberty for less than a head coaching job.

Lol Dabo wasn’t even a good WR coach when Clemson hired him! Chadwell has been a hugely successful HC at 3 levels now! CC was the best coached team in college FB this yr! Again a HS team and beat undefeated BYU, Power 5 team coached by Les Miles Kansas on the road, Billy Nappier Louisiana only loss, Troy, App St., and Ga st. Again with a team that’s only had FB for 17 yrs and year 3 at FBS. Unbelievable what he has done and with a true freshman QB!

Freeze is blocked by the SEC. Fisher stupid. Herman hell no! Chadwell no Marrone no obrien mayyybbbeee. Billy is decent Gus yes the hire we need but not the hire for playoffs

Fish might be many things but stupid is not one of them...he’s a very SMART guy...now cornbread, that’s a different story.

My point that he isn’t hireable in the SEC isn’t that Sankey won’t allow it. It’s bc the man had a $16M buyout from Ole Miss and didn’t receive one dime, with the best agent in the biz repping him. You know the kind of skeletons you have to have in your closet to not get a single dime of an 8-figure payday?

and this BS that Saban wanted him as OC is Hugh’s story. The reality is Saban was going to bring him on as an analyst, not OC.

These are the two most STANDARD guys on the list. I don't have anything against either one of them, but wonder how either would fare on the recruiting front. I would have to believe that Chadwell would bring on someone to introduce concepts on offense that are not as limited as his. Option in the SEC just gives me a little pause. Napier I don't have a clue. Don't know how our roster would fit either one of them and they won't get a free pass any more than Pruitt has. My fear is that both would be another kick the can down the road for another 3 years call and then rinse and repeat. I would prefer to keep Pruitt for next year or put an interim in place and hope for a more permanent solution to be on the market next year.

Well, he ended every word with a period. That settles it.

I can’t see running a triple option offense in the SEC turning us back into a powerhouse. Next how much time would he need to retool the roster (like Clawson needed to do when he got here) to run this offense?
