Consider this:

This is the weekend of the Texas-OU game in Dallas. No way does A&m vs Baylor, Okla St, etc trump that.

A&m vs Tennessee isn't just the big game in Texas, it's the big game in the country. All on Texas-OU weekend.

Because the SEC is bigger than Texas, and A&M was tired of being the little b!tch to Texas.

Pretty sure it was the Texas tv network. That was it.

Reading texags.com during that period, the network was more or less the final straw. There was a common sentiment throughout the Big 12 that Texas ran the show, and everyone else had to get in line.

They are no longer that. Texas can't win crap these days. Their fans got so hyped when they beat Notre Dame. They thought they were back. Notre Dame went on to lose 3 games. Texas sucks and it's funny as heck. They have the Longhorn Network and think they are so special. I know they are a sleeping Giant. But it's still funny right now.

More money
Better schedule
Not having to deal with Texas's bull crap
Now the most relevant program in the state.

Pretty damn smart move by aTm IMO.

Money, the fact that the Big 12 wouldn't share it equally among the teams, and how Texas was getting special treatment (Longhorn Network with ESPN, showing 1-2 Big 12 games, and slightly before it they were even about to allow Texas to start showing the HS games of Texas commitments).

They wanted more money and a chance for respect in a better conference. It's pretty much a given that the Big 12 champ ain't going to the playoffs.

It's surprising how far they have fallen since the 2010 BCS championship game. We make fun of Georgia and Florida and their inherent advantages but man, Texas has every advantage and really should be a dominant college football powerhouse. But they're not. I think TX is so huge there are so many D1 colleges and of course outsiders recruiting that TX is a lot like TN where you really have to have the right coach to make everything work.

Screw A&M. Can't stand their fans and if anybody wants to know why, go get a little dose of what they're saying on SECrant.

Good point, but it ain't why they left.

The real reason: $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

They wanted a level playing field, this play was called for targeting and basically gave tx the win in their last game.

TexAgs made a documentary called SEC Ready; the trailer linked below will kind of give you a flavor for the pieces that were in motion and why the decision was made to leave. A&M left for a lot of the reasons pointed out already in this thread.

I wouldn't judge the fanbase from what is posted in that looney bin. I think you will find that the overwhelming majority of A&M fans have a tremendous amount of respect for Tennessee.

Why were there 2014 dates and Johnny F. highlights in there? I'm confused.

Can't wait to see that! Living in DFW and arguing with my Longhorn brother-in-law, I put out that this was a vanity project that was going to blow up in their face. Actually thought the Sooners might bolt. Remember that the Longhorns were flirting with other conferences, but none of them would sign off on one team having their own network. It even got floated that the lesser UT may go independent. Lot of laughing and derision when A&M's name came out of the hat. "Not a big enough name". They straight took Dennis Franchione away from Bama...I knew they were legit...money wise. Big XII is getting ready to screw up the rest of their conference by not expanding with Houston IMO. Let it burn.

They would "never beat Alabama" and would be "at the bottom of the west with Ole Miss". Manziel beat Bama (spoiler alert). Ole Miss makes it funny too. :wink2:

So, they were just pumping up their 2014 season in that video, then? I thought the video was gonna be for their initial SEC season.

Documentary is about them leaving the Big 12. Maybe the 2014 hype graphics illustrated that it wasn't a disaster as predicted? :dunno:

There's no reason why Texas and USC shouldn't be in the top 10-15 every year with occasional flirts with #1

I agree there are a lot of schools, but there are tons of players too

Exactly right. They think they are something, they are not. They think they are "similar" and "comparable" to Tennessee, lol. We will physically dominate them at their place and put them back where they belong, just like Colorado.

Because the recruiting field has been leveled in Texas to an extent. Kids used to go to Texas because they were the only team in the State that was getting exposure.

Now you have TAM, TCU, Baylor and even Houston and Texas Tech getting just as much or more exposure than Texas. As well as Oklahoma and Okie State raping and pillaging the recruiting grounds.
