If You Could Change the Outcome of One Play.........

The 2001 SECCG. We had the best team in the country that year and gave away a 2nd BCS Championship.

I can't remember the one play that turned that game though. I think there was a Stallworth fumble in the 4th quarter, which is a solid candidate.

Another solid candidate is the Memphis TD return (that shouldn't have been) in 1996. We very well could've been in the national championship game if that's called correctly.

edit: There was indeed a Stallworth fumble in the 4th. We were down by 4 and inside their 35 yard line. That and the Memphis play are #1 and #2 in my eyes because they both denied us a shot at the national championship, but the '06 Mapu penalty against Florida, the '06 un-called fumble by Jamarcus Russell, and the last plays of the '09 Bama game and '10 LSU game are all fine options.

......throughout the entire course of Tennessee's history what would it be, and why?

Go.

Off first thought probably either of the TOUCHDOWN runs by Riggs or Houston in SEC Champ Game against Auburn that got called back due to penalties (phantom in my opinion). I thought we could of won despite being a big underdog.

the UGA TE drops that pass in 01
"hands to the head" penalty in 06
bama 2pt conversion in 93
09 bama blocked fg

I'm sure there are many others I'll remember

Can't remember a specific play in 2001 SECCG, but id like to change the outcome.... I'm going to go with the 06 florida game. If we dont get that BS roughing QB penalty. We win big and if we stop tebow on 4th down. We win and ultimately florida doesnt go to national champ game

If you wanna get real recent with 2 games I can think of a couple....the fake punt Florida ran on us last year...we had all the momentum and the D had come up with a big stop only to have it yanked from them, first time in a while we had the Gators against the ropes with a legit shot to land a hay maker.

Then the 09 Bama game, the missed field goal at half time or the blocked kick at the end I would take either of those.

That's a solid choice as well.

I'm sure there is a ton if you really think about it but just off recent memory and since we are talking about changing just one play, I would choose Fat Cody blocking that FG in 2009. Would have not only gave us the win over bammer but possibly could have kept them outta the NC game.

I don't think that matters because the very next play they broke off another run for a TD if I remember correctly.

yeah I have to go with this one. It just sucked to lose like that

That bs catch by jabar gaffney was a pretty bad play as well.

I forgot about the gaffney phantom TD catch. Ive tried to erase it from my memory. We have been screwed a lot!

Didn't we lose the Orange Bowl to Oklahoma in 1967 on a missed field goal from chip shot range? If he hits that we have a more legit claim on that National Championship.

The roughing the QB penalty is the one that comes to mind, but changing that Tebow 4th down play is probably a more efficient way to win the game. If we have a 24-7 lead instead of 17-7, Florida may just hurry up more and still come back. If we stop that 4th and 2, they're done.

Has to be Stallworth fumble imo. Other plays were perhaps more dramatic, but this one had the most detrimental effect on the program.

The squib kick to Georgia after going ahead in the game with a long td run. Could've avoided the hobnail boot call by that jackass dawg radio announcer.

The "hobnail boot." This play (and Larry Munson's codgety old voice) is honestly the only reason I hate Georgia.
