IF Wilcox Leaves, Candidates For DC Job (merged)

I want Wilcox to stay put but if he did leave I'd like to see Shannon, Bumpas or CLT get the job. I wonder why so many of you guys like Steele so much? I realize the obvious reason but other than that whats the attraction? I mean Clemson's D hasn't been great over the last few years.

We could always go after a pro coach. Dave McGinnis has quite a bit of experience and is right down the road.

Id like to have John Tunata, he is currently the LB coach at NC State

I mistakenly put Ralphh Friedgen in an earlier post (he would be a great OC imo)

I don't get the love for Diaz. Wouldn't Lance Thompson be just as good of a hire?

His father was the mayor of Miami through 2009 and stepped down due to term limits so Manny jr. has all kinds of connections in south Florida. He has huge connections plus he's made every defense better that he's taken over.

I don't know where you get your info but if you think Jerry isn't going to keep Jason Garrett you are crazy. The cowboys don't want Fisher

I agree and if the Cowboys were dumb enough to hire Fisher, the Titans would probably grab Jason Garrett. Fisher is not going to Dallas, he'll be back in Tennessee next year.

As a Cowboys fan I hope to the heavens they don't hire Fisher.

Manny Diaz from Miss State. Need someone who is young, can instill some life and be around till lunch.

Manny is the guy.

Randy Shannon would be sweet, the defense back in the early 2000s was nasty, and would help with recruiting in Florida

I would have to look at Shannon first. Great defenses at the U when he was DC and his recruiting help into South Florida could not be matched.

During Shannon's six years as UM's defensive coordinator, his defenses ranked as follows in total defense nationally:

* 2001 - 6th
* 2002 - 7th
* 2003 - 2nd
* 2004 - 28th
* 2005 - 4th
* 2006 - 7th

Bonus: He already has some orange gear in his wardrobe.

It appears the negotiations with Johnson were even more serious than I remember.

Without question, one of the best moves South Carolina made this offseason was holding onto Johnson, who was offered a lucrative deal by Tennessee coach Derek Dooley to be the Vols’ defensive coordinator.

The Gamecocks acted quickly and extended Johnson’s contract to a four-year deal and increased his annual salary to $700,000.
