You heard anything about Dooley contacting another DC?

No but I'm sure Dooley already has some people in mind if he thinks Wilcox is leaving.

This thing will get resolved within the next 24 hours IMO. Bowl practice starts this week & Dooley isnt going to want this hanging over the team.

I bet he goes after Steele again. He had him wrapped up once. If Steele is smart, he will jump ship while he can. If he doesnt, next year could be his last year there..

I would love to have Chavis back but to promote CLT and hire Frank Wilson would be a major upgrade in my humbled opinion. Randy Shannon would also be a great hire for simple reason of recruiting in Florida. Never was a fan of Wilcox. He always played conservative and hardly ever brought pressure from the linebackers. In two years UT will be back fighting for an SEC championship. With an experienced O-Line, T-Bray or Worley, Arnett, Hunter, and Rogers at the WR position our offense will be scoring bunches. Get us a couple of DT's like Anthony Johnson and we are talking about a top ten team. I bet then Wilcox will wish he stayed at the "real UT". For all the rain there's a bright day for Tennessee football. I can see the sun breaking through the clouds!

Umm CLT at D Coordinator would not be an upgrade.

Is there anything that has led us to believe this is something that we should be REALLY concerned about? honestly just wondering.

Ever tried to teach a bunch of 3rd graders Calculus? That's what CJW was dealing with this year. Judging from what he did at Boise, I'd say he'll do fine once some horses are in place, but it's really hard to judge with the situation this year.

Saw thread on possible scandal coming down at UTjr in NCAA forum. Anyone think this would alter an up-and-coming DC from going there?

In Steele's first season (1999), Baylor finished with a 1-10 record (the school's worst since 1969). During the 1999 season, Steele's Baylor team was involved in what ESPN.com called one of the top 10 worst coaching decisions, in 1999, when he chose a running play rather than a kneel down with his team leading and possessing the ball in the game's final 12 seconds and the opponent (UNLV) out of timeouts. The ensuing Baylor fumble and UNLV return for a touchdown gave the Rebels a shocking win.

For that itself I wouldn't choose him.

If we don't promote CLT then he'll be gone soon after. Guy has been training under great coaches for a while now in an effort to learn enough to be successful as a DCoordinator somewhere. This guy deserves it! Great recruiter. Let's give him a shot!

I do like Wilcox, and I think that it is a compliment to his potential that Texas wants him as the DC. If there is a change, Shannon and Steele have to be at the top given their defensive success and recruiting prowess. Promoting CLT may not even be in the cards. Dooley didnt choose that route last time, so why do you think he would go that route this time. The whole Frank Wilson thing....Not going to get my hopes up.

What would CJW do with the talent Texas had this year , that Muschamp couldn't do? I mean considering the two , who do you consider to be the better DC at this point? I'd say that's a pretty easy choice. Muschamp is a defensive guy and with all that talent did very little. Take all the stars in the world , but who can deny that Texas had talent and depth. At Boise , Wilcox had his system in place , but they are better known for upsetting teams than beating all world teams consistently. Plus Boise really didn't fall off after he left. I know they returned alot of players , but I don't know how much of a difference he would have made.

This is the one time I can honestly say , other than the timing , I'm not upset if this happens. If Texas couldn't beat the likes of Baylor , K-State , UCLA , Iowa State and the rest with Muschamp and all that Texas talent ... good luck with Wilcox.

Chief would be my first thru 3rd choice still the best in the business if you ask me, but I somehow doubt he will return so by default my next choice would be Bumpas think that is TCU's DC then I'd look at Lance Thompson, not a big fan of Shannon, me I would next target Mark Stoops FSU give him more money and place a few non compete clauses in his contract. But at some point a few years like 4 or 5 Chuck Smith will be ready so you might look for an attacking style DC pupil from the pro ranks someone from either the Ryan Tree, Baltimore, etc. I want an aggressive knock your head off none of this set back in zone play it safe stuff, try to rip it from your grasp every play type defense, you know they get in the opponents head type. At times the opponent offense will know if they block however many we are going to bring one more guy and your qb is running for his life. I want all teams even Bama scared at the thought we are going to hurt their star players cause no matter what we are going to hit them in the mouth every play. If the guy coaches passive d styles forget him. JMO

How are you going to compare Wilcox and our defense to trying to teach 3rd graders Calculus? This is an SEC football team not a bunch of JUCO or division 3 athletes. Quit making excuses, yeah sure the depth hurt us. But this is the University of Tennessee not Carson Newman. The Boise State defense actually had a statistically better year this year than last year when Wilcox was there. Get John Chavis back to Knoxville. Oh and don't make anymore smart aleck remarks until you refute a good argument with a logical analogy. :salute:

I still don't get why anyone would EVER want Third and Chavis back.

Chavis ain't coming back. I, too, have no idea why anyone would want a guy who took an LSU defense that had fallen off a cliff and made it into the best defense in the SEC this year.

I can tell you who I don't want. Chavis or Lance Thompson promoted. LT was a DC before and there is a reason why he isn't one now.
