If Wilcox had stayed...

Sick of the excuses. If our defense were different, we would have different game plans going into games. Maybe we'd play it closer to the vest on offense and not take so many chances downfield. Maybe we'd still have turnovers on key drives with the pressure on. Who knows? I don't get this whole "we'd definitely be 7-2 if not for our defense" talk. Dooley has never had that kind of record.

You're absolutely right. If Dooley would have gotten more involved in the defense earlier against true competetion he would have exposed his coaching abilities and that is is, and has been, over his head in year 0,1,2 and whatever Harts chooses to do moving forward.

would it not have looked more like he was meddling if he done it after the Georgia game?

Most coaches have their starters figured out this late in the season but I read every week where coach Dooley is still experimenting with his lineup and it isn't due to injuries for the most part. I just can't see DD being competetive in this league.

Our defense would be alot better..Our defense had to learn an entire new system and as you can tell that has a huge impact on the season..But remember last year everyone was questioning chaney? granted I did at times but now look we have one of the best offenses in the country..If wilcox had stayed the vols would be 6-3 or 7-2 right now...and all this fire dooley stuff would be gone..I think we give him one more year be patient guys

Why do you think Wilcox left? He did not want to go down with Dooley's sinking ship. He took a worse job and get out of here. Dooley has back to back losing season and this year we have a losing record, it is time for him to go!!!!!!!!

But what happened to Sal being the defensive savior?

If Wilcox was still here we would be 8-1 and in the top 10 or 7-2 in the top 15 at the worst. Our defense was ranked what 28 or 29 last year?

Sorry man, it doesn't work like that. Games have to be played and coached. Would our defense be better with Wilcox? Most likely. But we also wouldn't be chucking the ball downfiled all the time playing catch up. Our offensive numbers are misleading this year because our defense is so bad. Our gameplans would be different. The opposition's gameplans would be different. Who knows if we would make the plays when we needed them to win. We simply haven't this year. And we really haven't done it in the Dooley era. I'd bet on history repeating itself this year, with or without Wilcox.

Actually the offense probably would have been better with a better defense. I believe it would have been a difference in all the games besides the Bama game. We would have run the ball more most likely and be finishing games instead of coming back in games.

No.

The mass exodus of the staff, the lack of faith in "the process" by the people who were brought together to execute "the process" is the most damning feature of the Dooley tenure.

Aside from all the losses.

There is no doubt our offense is very good. With that being said, in every game there is a lot of pressure on them because the defense can't stop anybody. They constantly have to either keep their foot on the gas so they make mistakes that they wouldn't if they didn't have to score every time they have the ball. Young & Bray have had fumbles that cost us games this year. Bray has also had an interception while try score at the end of a game. With a good defense we most likely wouldn't have been in those situations.

What total horsecrap.

You do NOT know and exactly NOBODY on here knows for a fact if it was CDD letting all the D coaches leave or if the coaches all decided to leave on their own.

We'll never know that for a proven fact.

What we do know is that Wilcox is from the Left coast and he's always wanted to get back to the much easier PAC 12 and I believe he hated having to play in the SEC because it would slow down his career and the option to become a Head Coach faster.

CDD is a 3-4 Defense guy just like nick saTan and Bill Bellichek are so he's always wanted to switch to the 3-4 D since day 1 that he got here.

NFL teams have had to delay their plans as have college teams to switch to the 3-4 because it's not easy to find really good 3-4 coaches to head the change over.

Even if it takes us 3 years to get our 3-4 working well I'll be VERY happy to have a top 10 Defense and get highly ranked like Bama and Notre Dame are right now and it IS teams like them that we WILL have to play and WIN over if we ever want to sniff a SEC Championship or another National Championship.

I just hope we get our D fixed well by next season like we did our running game so that we get lots of Wins against the best SEC rivals and so that Oregon doesn't kill our season early on next year.

Next year if we beat floriDUHHHH and are very respectable or somehow upset Oregon they we could get on a serious roll and Win the SEC East which IS step 1 to getting back to where we belong as a football powerhouse and force ESPN and all the press to say good things about us again which WILL help our recruiting some.

VFL...GBO!!!

I honestly can't believe that there are actually people on here who believe that Derek Dooley (32-39) was one staff member away from going 8-1 and having us ranked in the top 10.

this is almost an annual tradition.

2008, if we had a decent offense.....
2010, if we srtarted tyler bray at the beginning of the season instead of simms.....
2011, if hunter and bray didn't get hurt.....
2012, if wilcox had stayed......

Not enough pot in Oregon to buy into that theory is there?

Whew
