Dude on Basilio is swearing Howland would run to Knoxville to take the UT job for the same 1.8 Hart had offered Zo. The no buyout out of pocket for UT would be a plus. Not sure if it's in the cards, but the guy on the show thinks it should be a no brainer.

I have no idea whether this Maury Hanks guy is legit or not, but I would really like to know that Hart has pursued this option to find out whether that is true. If Howland turns us down, then at least I would know we tried. If that is true, I agree with him that it is a no brainer. I feel like hiring Howland is the equivalent of South Carolina hiring Spurrier after he was a "failure" with the Redskins.

This is most likely true LV.

I tell myself Howland "losing" his players at ucla is a concern. I then tell myself that I doubt Howland would have 5-6 5* ego maniacs on the roster at any given time in Knoxville and maybe it would not turn out like it did at ucla. The showing up late and leaving early from practice for a bb coach just seems weird to me. I read he just did not like being there with the kids and liked to do other things. Odd. The man's resume as a BB coach is very, very good. IF you could get him at 1.8 a YR and the buyouts could protect UT, maybe it's not a crazy thought.

If that is the case, you do not follow college basketball.

Colorado, So Miss & La Tech are hardly college basketball powerhouses. Unless you have ESPN 720 or FoxSports/Schools no one cares about, you probably would not have seen any of their games. Sorry man.

I wish we had the balls to do it. Not UT way though. They are afraid of not being able to control him.

Ehh, Not sure "control" is as much a factor as the media and some folks claim. The man is a bb coach. He has a boss. It's just the way it is.

Well, I don't claim to be an expert on all things regarding college basketball, and I can only follow what BB the sports networks deem to put on the tube. Colorado, USM, and LaTech aren't exactly regulars on any sports channel I get on Xfinity, so no, I didn't know anything about any of those 3 guys prior to this past week. I might hear their respective teams mentioned here and there, but never any mention of the coaches.

I will say that in googling them all 3 seem to be solid young coaches, but it doesn't change the fact I had never heard of any of them until the last few days.

Mack's tenure at Xavier suggest that he is not the program leader that former coaches Matta and Miller dwere while they were the Xavier HC. I don't think he is the guy we want.

No way. The article helped, but if he's competing for the Pac 10 title and winning NCAA games every year, he's not canned. His performance was bad those last 5 years.

He won the PAC12 the year he was fired, only had one losing record those last 5 yrs and that was the year after the SR's from the Final 4 teams graduated. I think you're overblowing his "poor performance".

Then again, you're probably a little nervous if he were to actually roam the sidelines here. We wouldn't get everyone we wanted out of Memphis but Howland would make JP's job a hell of a lot harder than Martin ever thought of.

If we were turned down by the LA Tech coach, don't expect us to be in the running for a more proven coach, other than Howland, who's just looking for any job right now. Once more UT is the laughing stock of college athletics. It really is just sad.

And if the contract #'s came out and people saw Hart gave the guy the kitchen sink to sign him he would be raked over the coals for over paying for a 3rd year unproven coach. Obviously Hart liked White as a BB coach. Just not at the price it was going to cost UT. I have no doubt Hart has UT's best interest in mind.

I'd be fine with you guys hiring Howland if that's what you want. I'm more worried about White or Wade coming in here, young guys who are going to work tirelessly.

Howland's poor performance is relative to the school and how much unbelievable talent he had there. You mention only one losing season, but schools like Kentucky, UCLA, Duke, UNC, Kansas don't have losing seasons.

Guy's on the decline like Howland usually fare very poorly in their next gig, I'm surprised you guys are banging that drum.

Has your coach been to any final fours? Oh wait has your coach even made it to the second weekend? How much are you paying him by the way? Worry about your house we will worry about ours.

The point is that his record, although pretty mediocre, is better than Howland's over the past 5 years of each's career.
