You thinking of the right guy? He didn't get canned because he under performed. He got canned because of the SI article.

No way. The article helped, but if he's competing for the Pac 10 title and winning NCAA games every year, he's not canned. His performance was bad those last 5 years.

That article has a lot more to do with it than you are giving credit for. Also is the biggest reason he has yet to land a gig.

I don't see what this has to do with Pastner. Howland got canned from his last gig because he under performed. That's someone that you're interested in awarding your HC position to?

The point is he is a more qualified coach than some coaches that are currently employed. I used JP as an example because you are a tigers fan and it seemed appropriate.

I was assuming that the primary reason he hasn't found a gig yet was his record over the last 5 seasons. He had top 3 talent most of those years.

But my main point was: how many "success stories" do you hear of coaches who are given second chances after they are canned from their last job for performance concerns? Guys like Doherty, Ben Braun, Steve Lavin, Tubby at Texas Tech, Mike Davis, etc. A few of these names had several years of elite success before their declines and they didn't do well at their next gig.

If White turns us down then I would say anyone on the current list right now will also.
If Hart is squeezing the buyout money so hard none of these guys will take a chance on this job.
I can't wait to hear Hart's spin when he does hire someone. It will be who he wanted all along and is the perfect fit for the job.:eek:lol:

Howland has as many NCAA wins as Pastner in their last 5 seasons, and Howland had much better talent and Pastner has made one more NCAA tourney. Plus, you guys don't want Pastner, so why Howland?

Well to put this to rest, UT could do much worse than Howland. My two cents.

MemphisCanes as valid as your example may be, it is better risk that the alternative, IMO. We are quickly heading towards and no name mid major guy who may or may not ever figure things out. I would rather take a risk on a guy who has got things rolling before.

A guy who walks around with a long metal pole is more likely to get struck by lightening twice, than a guy who may or may not even step out of the house to get in the rain would get struck once.

I get your point, I just see Howland as the low risk/low reward candidate. I personally think guys like Tyndall and Wade would be great at UTK.

I have no idea why Hart couldn't ink Michael White if he wanted him though. Head scratcher.

I'm not getting it either. Unless White and his agent are making their terms so unrealistic Hart just can't agree. And the only reason I can imagine them doing that would be hoping for the Ole Miss job in the future.

This is what concerns me the most. If Michael White is out of our league...well, who exactly can we land? This is where my desire to land Howland comes from. He certainly isn't my first choice.

If he wants to go to Missy in a few years, I think Hart can leave the door open to him. Leave the buyout modest on the first go-round of contract drafting. Once he gets dug in here, he realizes that the UT gig is much better than the Missy gig. If he STILL wants to go when Kennedy leaves, let him. The replacement coach pool can't get any shallower than this season, so UT is probably still in good shape.

some sources have said that Cronin and Mack both have interest in UT job.

Of course they do...Let me explain something to you guys who think these coaches actually have an interest in the UT job...They want it known they are interviewing for the job and they want their current AD to know they are interviewing...Why you ask?...Simple, to get leverage for a bigger raise..Cronin and Mack both are at the schools they went to and are where they want to be...The only interest they have in UT is getting themselves a bigger raise so for those of you holding out hope either of them are serious candidates there is your truth....Your welcome:salute:

He is far from out of our league...In fact we are probably out of his league...the thing is he wants a bigger buyout in case he doesn't get the job done...He also knows the Ole Miss job might open up in a year or 2 so he wants a way to escape without hitting himself too hard in the wallet.

What do you want him to say? Jeez Um you know a lot of people hung up the phone on me and this guy actually answered on accident because he thought it was wife calling him. Lucky for me he said yes because he thought I was Texas calling and he didn't realize it was the UT in Knoxville until after he signed. So here is ladies and gentleman our new coach

I choose other. That guy that's been to 3 finals fours and requires no buyout.

Dude on Basilio is swearing Howland would run to Knoxville to take the UT job for the same 1.8 Hart had offered Zo. The no buyout out of pocket for UT would be a plus. Not sure if it's in the cards, but the guy on the show thinks it should be a no brainer.
